I got a serious inquiry yesterday about sawing ~150 Cypress cants that is only 80 miles away.  I used last week's job as a reference and bingo!

I ain't sawin nothin. I'm on day 7 of 14 days straight twisting wrenches in a pulp and paper mill. So far they're all 12 hr days, but it sounds like I might get a 16 or 2 over the next couple days. On the bright side, this should give me a little extra money for my trip to Liberia this spring.

MM, sawing cypress cants should be a treat.

WDH, the pecan slabs look very good.  On the wide cedar with the metal, I think I would put on one of the blades we have previously hit metal with but that still cut straight - we have several to choose from - and saw the rest of that log.  One dry, wide live edged cedar slab, without rot, should more than cover the cost of several blades.  I desisted last spring while sawing a large diameter oak solo after ruining two bands and also hitting nails with the saw chain.   After this cut the rest of the log made a contribution to global warming via the burn pile.  DanG, Mr. Widehead could probably get $300 for a thick cedar slab it he called it a mantle.

Ouch! That's so painful, even a caveman would feel it ;)

Yup Crossroads, I kinda hope that job comes through.  I love sawing Cypress.

The job that I just finished was set up on red clay sand.  Yup, the logs were practically covered with sand so I had the tailgunners busy knocking off as much as possible especially on the exit side.

The brushes got a good workout, actually a wearing out.

I had a full box of new brushes but I couldn't let the helpers know because then they would not have worn the old one completely out.   ;D

Finished off a blade on a poplar log today, put a new blade on and started cutting a real nice white oak.   Got two thirds through it and poof, big ole nail.
Starting to think the metal detector idea a good one.  >:(

caveman, nice Pecan log.  The nails look like my Ash logs!  I'm sure I'll never saw Pecan.  Too far north.

Jim, how does your color coding work?

Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!

Brad, the pecan belonged to WDH.  Mine was just a fat, metal filled water oak.

Dude complained about $2 each for 30 cookies?  What does he think you are, a charity?  You have to wonder how gracious this dude is, probably a Philanthropist who gives away millions to solve World Hunger?

Probably NOT.  These kind of people pith me off.

Jim, how do you use the Color Coding System?

Curious how others us a color system....and/or track "Logs to finish Lumber", if you'd like to keep lumber from the same tree together.?

Jim, how does your color coding work?

When a company asks me to do their trailer decking, I go to the trailer and measure it. I then draw up a plan putting planks in between the steel rails and end them over a rib. I print out the plan and give it to the mechanic who is going to install the decking and he just need to follow the instructions of cutting them to lengths so that they just drop in.
Here is a screen shot of the current job with color coded planks in place:

This company is a major highway paving company in my area. The put down black top (hot top as we call it around here) for highways and streets all over our area.
I have been doing their trailer decking for many years.

I was able to take delivery on my my mill this morning!

I have so looked forward to posting something in this thread....

I decided to spend the day practicing on a short red oak log that was destined to be firewood.
