Well it was in the 20's here when mine failed this morning.   :o

Starmac, I could saw the 18' logs with the seat but not the 20's and they are coming randomly.  Dave gave you the answer.   ;D

I have actually never seen a seat on a mill, so all I can say is DUH, I learned something.

It sounds like you may get pretty familiar with that country before they get all those houses built, actually sounds good.

Thanks Brad, Neat system! ;) I've been around barns, sheds and steel commercial buildings and never seen that. I figured they were gonna pour a slab under them.

Starmac, here are a couple of pictures of the seat:

When it gets to 15°f the mill runs. And running a mill without the seat sucks and slows me down. Doing a good job Magicman.

Lynn, in the pic of the contactor in post 8369 doesn't look like the contactor ever had full contact with the power strip!

Got crooked somehow, and that adjustment is not easy to spot, until it's about done!   :-\

Correct Chuck it was crooked and this one may be too.  I replaced it on the "fly".   ;D

Lynn,

Sorry you had to remove the seat for this job. At least now you can remember and sympathize with all us "little people" who walk all the time.

Not that a seat was an option on my mill but I like the walking and need the exercise so it is a good deal for me. The only problem I run into is occasionally I have an off bearer unloading from behind me (front end of the mill) and they don't move quick enough and I step on their feet. Normally that should be faster since I don;t have to lift the head as high.

I was operating a Super 40 electric with Command Control yesterday for a customer of mine.  Every time I sent the head down the carriage I would walk into the Command Control box as I expected it to go with the saw head.  Yea - when you are accustomed to things operating one way and it changes it sure can mess you up.

As to the sawing when its cold...i found its not really that bad.  After my mill was down for two weeks i felt obligated to cut my customers wood after i got the switch in.  One morning it was just a bit over 7 degrees.   I wasnt sure the mill would crank, but it did.  The next morning wasnt much warmer.  But with little to no wind, it wasn't that bad.  Makes me think I might have some Yankee blood in me somewhere.   ;)  Banjo

We have a lot of issues when it does not get above 32 during the day. We only use water in the lube for our mills and the drip or the spray nozzles will freeze up. We freeze proof it at night by draining or filling the line with WWfluid. I am too cheap to run the stuff for lube.

I started running WW fluid all the time. When it's STUPID cold, I add a gallon of methanol.
Believe it or not, seems to keep the blades cooler (tension up) as well. I used to have the blade heat up too much when doing BIG cuts on my LT40 wide. Now, with carbide and WW+methanol, it works like a champ!!
