What kind of help do you need? I don't know a thing about pettibone but I know a little about detroit engines.

whodue- I have a brochure for Pettibone 7, it's from 1968 I believe. It eighter had a Chrysler engine or a DD 353, Pettibone had some unusual engine choices. I can scan it on here if you want. Post a picture and I'll see if it is the right one.

I owned a Pettibone master 15 with 453 DD. I think they made a pretty good machine. They did have some unusual deigns. Parts can be hard to find from what I've heard.

I have a later model Pettibone- it's a '79 model 501. DD353, gearmatic 19 winch, standard tranny. I really like the machine, but I haven't run it enough to break anything on it. I've also heard parts can be hard to come by, really the only parts that would concern me much are drive components (Tranny, transfer, axles and planetaries) and the center oscillation joint (mine doesn't have a front axle cradle pin like a TJ or TF).

Is that a gearmatic winch hidden down in there? Nice looking machine I like the grille accessory

whodue

Yeah that's a Gearamatic 19,but I'm not sure what model the skidder is? Says Model SD 7-2 and it has a Detroit Motor,,,

Pettibone used the term "speed skidder" and master as in master 7. They were good machines some parts are hard to get. But many were built like tree farmer/timberjack and once you identify the component you can get it. If you get a manual you can get some parts from Pettibone. I used G A Giar in the past.
You may check out but you will never leave

Thanks Jocco for the encouraging words. I know nothing about Pettibone skidder. Back in the day I did run several skidders. But here in the PNW Pettibone was not a popular brand. Matter of fact this is the first I've ever seen. Got maybe thirty acres of young Doug Fir too thin. Hoping this machine will do the job.

leave it to pettibone this is the 9th skidder iv looked at and every one has had a different set of planetarys  in them  I have the 501 mountain goat looked at 4 of them and all were different  must of been who ever gave the best deal at the time that's what they bought  :D :D    never seen a little one with the gmatic 19 on it  all the ones iv seen here has had the gmatic 8-9 be careful with that winch it will rip that skidder in half  ;D  my 501 I ripped the back rear out from under it was not a pretty sight at the time but its funny now  :D :D :D good luck with it  post some pics of it skidding wood ,stuck or even up side down :o 8)

Just read the specifications, So does it have a  torque converter in front of a 5 speed? Seems like a neat idea.

Sorry for not getting back much sooner tantoy, been working a great deal. But you are correct this is the same machine you saw on CL.
IN the process of rehabing the old girl, any ideas on where a fellow would find a brake caliper? They seem to be quite rare and expensive

Post a picture of the caliper and maybe someone would IT it.

Unless the caliper is flat out broken, you should be able to refurbish it. Especially if it is a hard to find one. A good cleaning, and disassemble, new o rings and go. If it is pitted in the piston bore, you could take it to a good machine shop and fit a machined bore to it, cut it oversize and shrink fit a bore into it like a cylinder sleeve on the engine.
