Meadows Miller

G'day

I use Grey Box for my guides from 1.5 to 2" square and get a great run out of them .

I had square ones in one mill I ran.  I used a block of hickory or locust as a guide.  Just cut a block of wood and get it to the wide width.  I cut grooves in the wood with a grinder.  Soak in oil for a longer lasting fit.  I used a hammer to install.  To get out, you take a chisel or a screwdriver and split the guide into pieces.  I always went with the grain, as it's harder to get an end cut into it.

You might be able to find a composite block that would work.  You might have to adapt them to fit.  We even had to adapt the round ones to fit the newer mills.  It isn't one size fits all.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I had some trouble with my pins for a while until I got all the stars and planets aligned. Since then I have the same dogwood pins with not much wear at all. When I "mop" my log beds, head blocks and other things with used motor oil cut with diesel, I make sure they get a little taste as well.
