Well, I feel bad that I was not on top of this as usual and have a contest or something going. Been preoccupied with other things trying to get things done around here that I can and be ready for October 11th. I will be having Surgery that day and wont be able to do much for the following 3 months. (I can hang out here alot though! :))

I promise to have a couple celebration contests or something between now, and leading up to Christmas.

Now, first Person to Tell me The Skipper's and Professor's Charactor's given names from Giligans Island wins a Forum Turkey call! ;) (ya gotta have both right, so be careful about posting it if you are not sure)

I've watched those old reruns for years and I never knew their character names and tried to remember their real names, but too short a memory. :D :D

Congrats Mule Man.

hmmm I wonder if them turkey calls are good for coax'n in the spruce grouse. :D :D Them darn things are so tame that shooting them should be outlawed. I just saw one yesterday too, nice fat feller with his bright red eye brows.

cheers ;)

I haven't shot one in 25 years, once I found out the meat tasted like spruce needles and the fact there is no sport in it. Reminds me of that bird (the dodo?) they slaughtered to extinction.

never tried them myself, but ive heard much of the same, tastes like the forest floor. strange that something that tases so bad and is so docile would have such limited numbers in the wilderness. i think it may have had something to do with the eggs, but not sure. looking for the book with population #s, and other facts pertaining to my area.

im partial to the ruffed grouse anyway, they actually fly away! :D
tates great, to boot! ;D

VvVLLLLLLL  as the ruffie takes off... ah ya missed :D :D

Yep we hunt them here to, but I haven't even shot one of those for 10 years. I don't hunt any longer. Also this time of year grandfather would hunt woodcock to, in old fields. I never ate woodcock, but ate lots of Ruffies.

It,s more sporting to hunt those Spruce grouse with rocks like the cave men!! I got one that way and ate it but only once. I'd rather chew spruce gum.
