half dove jig
« on: November 06, 2015, 09:37:31 PM »
I have been searching for plans on how to build a simple jig for a half dovetail log joint.
I  looked but I can't seem to find one. Any guidance is appreciated.

we have the great northern dovetailer jig, just finished all the joints on a cabin, worked well.
It is a compound jig, uses a chainsaw with guides

Just google great northern dovetail.com
There is a member that lives in Montana that makes plans for a  1/2 dovetail, you just make it out of plywood.if you search on this site dovetail notches it should come up

Been looking at jigs. Looks fairly easy to build but I had  noticed they don't fit the log very snug. Is the reason so you can use same jig on different height logs and different length tails since  you line up off a centered chalk line. What is the reason for the 2" gap between the end of the tail and the inside of the jig.
