Since I've not had a lot of luck hunting on our proprty in the last few years due to the lack of deer, I decided to go Old school opening day. I headed a few miles west of here to some state owned land I know about, and just went in to hike around to see if there was any deer sign. There was! I'm thinking opening morning I'll just hike in where I saw the sign, sit down and hunt the sign, rather than hunt from a comfy blind.

While out I found this awesome knarly old Beech tree. It was hard to get a picture of it because of the brush. I tried, but you just don't get an idea of the scale. I stuck my mug in the last one to try and get scale, but it really didnt. It is at least 6' across the front. Its just a knarly cool looking old tree. It would be perfect to climb up in and watch if it wasn't so brushy around it.

That is how I have been deer hunting the past two years now.  Found a good spot a couple days ago to setup my climber.  Figure that maybe if I get up in the air a bit it might be better.

That beech is awesome!  I love walking around state land.  Sandy really did a number in the woods.
Boy, back in my day..
