Nice buck Ed.

Our opening day of buck season was Monday I stayed in my stand all day and saw around 20 deer the only buck was one small 7 point til this guy walked through around 5:10 in the afternoon. It's my biggest buck to date a 12 point with a 21" spread, gross score 142.
I will admit I had a pretty serious case of the shakes.  8)

Earlier tonight I was over on the Virginia Game and Inland Fishers website and was reading about this years deer hunt.  According to them the harvest is down statewide.  In some areas as much as 60%.  Most areas it sounds like it is down by 20-40%.  They listed several reason from the mast crop last year, midges and another outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD).  I know the number of deer on my place in Madison County appears to be WAY down.

Here is an article about it:  http://www.fredericksburg.com/news/local/virginia-deer-kill-numbers-down-greatly-this-year/article_6bc031d6-8141-11e4-ae06-dfbc409bec94.html.

Very nice!

I almost talked myself out of sitting in the woods last Friday because it was so warm, but I'm glad I went.  This guy came strolling by with about 5 minutes of legal shooting light left.  He's a pretty decent buck for the area, and the nicest one anyone had seen on Mom and Dad's property so far this year.

"Last light" in Geneva, PA is right at 5:25 this week.
Last week, last light would easily been after 5:10, I'm thinking.
We can shoot until "last light" in WI (half hour after sunset).

Here is a link for sunrise sunset and first-light last-light that other zip codes can be plugged into.

http://sunrisesunset.willyweather.com/pa/crawford-county/geneva.html

Pete, what are your shooting hours based on in your location?
Appears by the regs that sunrise to sunset.   note: we get a lot of deer between sunset and last light.  ;D

Thanks
in the old days legal hrs here were 7 am to 5 PM
Now sunrise to sunset.
Altho SOME of course not me hunt from first  until last light.
I wish that NY would stop making SOME not me outlaws regarding shooting hrs.
In my last post i neglected to take longitude into consideration regarding shooting light.
day before yesterday I sat until 5:05 and couldnt see to shoot heard 1 shot at 4:55.
Thats a dandy buck Young Stump as is yours VT.
No luck with bucks here yet and last weekend is coming up for regular gun season.
