The quote is actually from Ohiobill.
I have always rebuilt my own starters and alternators.
An old hand at automotive electrical shop where I purchase the required parts advised me to run a dedicated ground from the battery to the starter.

I took the started off the detroit 353 out because It wouldn't crank.
Can you please help me on how to proceed? I just got the machine and while it had hard time to start it always did after 10-30 trys....  :-X

a) When I connect the 2 big lugs to 12V, the gear turns but,
b) when I connect the small lug to the big lag that has 12V from the battery, The gear moves up,  but does not turn. Is it something that I could fix or should I find a repair shop?

I would prefer to get my hands dirty if it can get fixed :)
When me works, me works hard.
When me stops to think, me falls asleep.
