Working on and off for a while doing a little at a time but I finished my Country Outhouse.
The inside is 4' x 4' x 6 foot tall.
The inside has no seat but I did place the floor joist in a way that plumbing can be installed.
Me and Kirk built the house from air dried Poplar board and baton. The floors are Poplar shiplap as are the vertical boards on the door.
The gables and face boards are all Cedar.....tin roof, hardware, and a little deco to he outside and it was ready.
I shared the pics on Facebook and it SOLD in just a few hours. The guy came straight to my house with the cash. Customer will pick it up tomorrow.
Honestly, I never knew there would be this much interest.....but there is....a lot. People are wanting Outhouses.
I guess my next one will be solid Cedar.....they've already put down a deposit.  ;D

You know David, you could almost sell me grits.  :D
Make a "Garden Shed". I have been thinking about one just about that size right by the garden. I have a shed for the garden tools, but that is about 40 feet from the garden. I could use something close by for the tools that we use every day.

......or you could just put a chair in it and call it a "Sitter".  :D :D :D :D
A good way to just sit and think.  :)

The guy that bought it will use it to put his swimming pool equipment in right beside his pool. Says he gonna put shrubs and flowers around it.
I think it will look nice when he gets it set up right.

Plenty of demand for them up here, but folks want them functional as they are still used for their intended purpose.

David,

I'd never have thought of it. Amazing what people will buy.

(By the way - it looks to be missing a seat. Going to be a single or two holer? I never figured why they made two holers - I never wanted to be in there alone, let alone with company).

Two holers have different sized holes so the smaller patrons will not end up down the hole or stuck.   I had seen a four holer with a step down bench seat that would help the toddlers become independent thinkers .

Nice job. I was at the local Amish store today and they had about 100 premade sheds that they sell out back. There was one that looked just like yours and the same size with a $889.00 price tag on it that included delivery. Must be outhouses are making a come back. :)

Does the installation guide have a recommended number of beverages for the bar attachment?  I love this design and may be stealing shortly for a small garden version :)

I can still hear the racket...

I was driving the pickup truck when we were moving when I was 18 yrs old. My sister had an upright piano which she had had for several years. The piano took a nose dive over the side when I turned from the side road onto the highway. I don't know which racket was worse, the piano or my sister's crying...

Very nice.  I too have been building an outhouse, or as we
up north don't call it, a privy.  I got the hole dug this week, had to go down almost 5' cause the clay at 2-4' down was so greasy and thick nothing would ever leech..I got down to some more crumbly greasy clay.  Prolly just a couple more evenings and I'll have her done, will post pictures.  Why do all outhouses have a moon shaped hole cut out in the door??
Boy, back in my day..

OHHHHH!

See, I was under the impression (an old boy told me this), that outhouses were built for women back in the day, the men just went in the woods.  So I didn't woulda thought about that.

Here's the one I'm working on...not near as fancy, but the goal is functionality.

I'm quite a bit deeper now.  Wasn't easy digging, took me a couple hours to get there.

I found a 55 gal drum in the woods, gonna take that and cut out the top and bottom and cut holes in the sides to make a dry well.  Then will fill around with stones.  Another reason for the drum is so to help keep the frost from collapsing my hole.
Boy, back in my day..

POSTON WIDEHEAD

You dug that hole with a shovel????

A shovel, pick ax, digging bar, post hole diggers, and sweat..But mainly a shovel...when I was in that bad clay I was pretty much just poking around and stomping on the shovel and prying, and then I'd reach down with my hands and pluck a piece out.  I have approx. 4 hours in that hole now (which is too long really)...when I work for the excavation guys I do alot of digging with a shovel, cause when it's me and any of the 3 brother who own the company on a job site, they're in the machine and I'm doing the labor :D ...so yea, I get alot of practice and it's one of my strong suites  :D

My inground auto lift has a 9' 6" hole to accept the 13 inch cylinder .It took me 3 days to dig it by hand .

Al,would take me 3 days to dig a hole that deep here too. I would have to keep moving the hole because of rocks, than I would give up and call in a excavator to it. Than I would have to call a blasting crew in. Had to use the dynamite here when digging for the house.
No way I could dig a hole like 4X4 did.

4x4 I thought that new outhouses are illegal to install in NY. I think they require a composter or septic in most areas. It has become a problem for people trying to build  small hunting cabins with no plumbing. :)

So uncle cletus was coming for a visit out to the old homestead. Ma told the youngins to stay out of the way. They were set to digging a new hole for the outhouse. Now Uncle Cletus was a traveling sales man for dynamite.  The 2 youngins were scratching their heads as to were they should relocate that there hole.  Then Festus says "lets get some dynamite from uncle cletus truck, we can throw it in the old hole and where the outhouse lands we will dig it there". Well they no sooner had lit that there fuse and done run off around the corner of the barn, when uncle cletus come a runnin to the outhouse,  he had just enough time to get himself settled in when it blew, the shed went a flying , uncle cletus went a flying, after a brief moment uncle cletus got up dusted himself off and muttered,"glad i didn't let that go in the kitchen"
