I've been using over mixed roundup but it takes several days to a week to kill it, anyone have and faster better ways to kill it completely and napalm is not the answer.

Whatever you do dont burn it.
My BIL did back in the 60s and got in the smoke and had a horrible case.
Roundup here works but in the time frame you mentioned.

No direct knowledge about poison ivy but Crossbow and diesel, half and half, will kill just about anything.  Doubt that it's legal anymore but have seen road crews here use it.

I'll be following this thread with interest. Been battling PI for over ten years along a fence in the yard. It keeps coming back no matter what I've tried.

I sprayed a variety of broadleaf stuff with garlon xrt this week and most plants began to shrivel the next day.

No quick way, that I know of.
Delawhere Jack, you own that land? I brought back 7 acres of the old farm. There was a so called stone wall about 100 feet long and had poison ivy in it. This was out in the open,no trees around. I sprayed Tractor Supply brand of total vegetation killer,I bought it by the 2 gallon jug. I kept the ground barren for about 4 years. If it was green I sprayed it,I did not look to see if it was grass or person ivy. All gone now and so is the so called stone wall. I mow that area and no problem. I kept right up on it. Was a bother the first summer, but got easier each year.
I also have some down at the edge of the woods. That I can not get rid of. I think the trees somehow shade it and the vegation killer just can not work like it should. I did start to use round up,but at $20 a quart,at that time,I could buy 2 gallons,on sale for less than $60. But I am starting to treat the edge of the woods the same way,if it's green,I spray it.I hate to do it,but I want to get rid of that stuff once and for all. My sprayer will only spray about 10 feet. I'm into the woods 30 feet now,my third year at it.

For spot spraying lot of poison ivy I use 1/4 percent arsenal ( now called power line) and 4 percent glyphosate (generic round up) but on the big vines I spray cuts with a 20 percent gallon 4 and 80 percent bark oil solution.  Do not cut with a machete use a saw and go slow as to not spread the oil/sap from the plant

Anyone know where i can get some 2,4,5-t herbicide....I need to make some agent orange, I'm thinking that will take care of my problem.

Not anymore, but we surely used it while I was growing up.  Talk about killing stuff dead!!  Maybe that is why I look like I look.   headscratch

I think I will be making a mix of a few things, round up, 2,4-d and bush-b-gone. Anyone have any other suggestions on what to mix it with or add to my mix.

I would add a couple of squirts of Dawn dishwashing liquid. It acts as a surfactant by helping to break up the waxy finish on certain leaves.

Roundup, or generic with Crossbow and a little diesel or dish washing liquid.

You could try to change the soils PH and that might prevent them from being able to absorb nutriants causing them to die.

DelawhereJoe

Are you saying to spray the ground with muriatic acid or draino, in order to drastically change the soul ph to kill it? Sounds like it would work, could be more dangerous then herbicide, with the flesh melting off thing. If my 3 oz 41% roundup, 6 oz bush-b-gone, 5oz 2,4-d and dawn doesn't work....that may be my only option.

A couple years ago I used Ortho Brush-B-Gone Poison Ivy Killer. It must have worked since I never finished the bottle.

jdonovan

generally round up has word for me. not fast but effective. 2,4-D is also a good choice if its in/around gras you want to keep.

if its in an area you can have  bare ground, a soil sterilant like pramitol will prevent ANYTHING from growing.

DelawhereJoe

I'm good with completely dead as long as it kills the ivy, dont really care what else it takes out, unless it will pollute my ground water. The ground water runs between 8"-3' down depending on the season. My well here is only 32' deep.

Oh and thanks to all you awesome people that have responded to help me with my evil green problem. I hate poison ivy the way dairy farmers hate ground hogs and prairie dogs.

How about a weed torch?  Not enough to smoke em but enough to kill em.  Or boiling water.  Or salt water, like calcium chloride (I think) the stuff you load tractor tires with.  That crap will kill or eat almost anything.  Hardware stores should have some for ice melt.  Any of that ice melt stuff mixed with water is lethal stuff.  It heats up alot when you mix it with water, too, so ya knows it's a workin'!  :D

I second the Brush-b-Gone nomination.  If the ivy is growing up the trees, cut the vines and paint the stumps with it undiluted.  You will still need to remove the dead vines as they can still infect you.

I think I'm the only forest land owner in my area who tries to keep the poison oak suppressed.  I guess everybody else is immune to it.  I use generic round up but it's slow.  I spray it in late summer, hopefully just as the leaves are changing color.

The birds keep spreading seeds, so there are always new little ones coming along.  I'm at roughly the western edge of it's main area in the Willamette Valley/coast range.
