I picked up an MP200 two sided planer for my cabin project. I need to make T&G for my floors, roof and walls. The floors and roof will be out of 2x pine stock an the walls out of 1x incense cedar.

I'm thinking of having one set of knives made with a double T&G. Full height for the 2x and drop down for the 1x.Read More

Has anybody used one of the Japanese mini trucks in place of a UTV? I've been checking them out and they look pretty interesting. They can't be imported from Japan until they're 25 years old, but a lot of them have pretty low mileage. Some of them are available with differential locks, four wheel drive, and a dump bed all with an enclosed cab with heat and sometimes AC. People put lift kits on them and off-road tires. The price on them is a lot less than what a UTV would cost with similar options. Maine won't let them be registered for the road at this point, but I'm primarily looking for something around the house and in the woods. Read More

Hydraulic toe boards stopped functioning.

Insulation on smaller gauge wires at battery terminals started to melt.

Lever actuated switch for this function do not appear to be working. No vibration like the other three switches when they are working.

1. Could it be that the melting wires and the hydraulic switch/valve issues are related? How and why?Read More

This is a follow up to my post in "watcha sawing" of the 20 ft yellow poplar 4 x 10 roof rafters I am sawing. I had heard that the poplar would have stress and move when sawn. The logs are as straight as I ever have. The butt logs have taper which I have been trimming off before taking full cuts and the second logs up actually roll. Watching Yellow Hammers video on reading the log to minimize stress movement put me on task to try and read the logs. I have been taking slabs off each side then continue around each face again taking jacket boards to see if one orientation produced more curl that the other. I would be hard pressed to say that any of the logs have had one face move more than the others. So the attached pic shows it all. Slab firewood on the lift, jacket boards on the tractor forks and three rafters rolled on side on the bunks. This one had a bit more movement that the others so far with the centered pit rafter pretty darn straight and curl away from the center on the two side rafters. Tulip yellow poplar trees/logs look so straight and clear but they consistently have stress away from the center on all faces.Read More
