How can I have minus messages?

I can't figure this one out by myself. Here is what I copied and pasted from the top of this page.
"Hey, Fraxinus, you have -1 messages, 0 are new."
Must be I owe somebody one or something ???

Sprucebunny, I will be over your way today. I have a crew working on Jericho Road unless the town of Bartlett has kicked them off. If that happens, they'll go work in Jackson where the road agent realizes that it's a good thing to work with us instead of against us.

it means you have 1 message and that you have already read it, so there are no new messages . Tom

i like my old messages, am i taking up too much space with, say, 167 old messages?

167? thats about 3 days worth for me. 153 of them are from two guys complaining they have -1 ;)

I would strongly suggest you do not save "important ones" in instant messages. right now I dont have a limit, but if things get out of hand on people never cleaning out thier messages I may decide to implement a limit as I had before. If I do that, anything over the limit will disappear.

If you take 2000 members and they have a couple hundred messages each, not to mention all the stuff they may save in thier outbox, you can end up using a ton of server space just for that.

I came into the FF yesterday and it read -

"21 messages, 1 is new."

I poked the messages and when that window came up, it said -

"20 messages, 0 are new". And sure enoungh, there were none.

Some of this is that your browsers are caching the page and not refreshing. Bibbyman, your description is a good example.

Nothing is eating them up. You never chose to keep them. Its an option in preferences.

I've got a few messages where someone has replied with a quote from my message so we both know what the continueing conversation was about.

They yesterday, I made a reply by starting with a quote and then inserting my answers to the questions right in the quote in a different color font. Hope it made it easier for the receiver to understand.

Naw. That ain't it at all. A couple days ago when I was yakking with DanG, it said I had 0 messages and 1 new message. After I read and deleted DanG's message, it went back to minus one messages and 0 new messages. Must be asy has something special about the way she does business from "dDown Under". ;) ;)

Any senior member shouldn't mind erasing their messages. They won't remember they erased or that they even had them. Remember mom saying, "Isn't it about time you cleaned your room"? Figures!! :D :D :D

i never really had that many messages saved, just a few.
i figgerd you had a limit on the amount for a reason, so i cept it cleaned out.

cant wait to get 4 and none are new
wonder if theres every been 5 or 6 with none are new,
anyone no if there is or was or even could be such a thing as a sevener with none are new?
