Drying and Processing / SHADE CLOTH FOR SOLAR KILN?
Last post by DON FRANK - Today at 10:39:44 AM
This is the first spring/summer i have used my solar kiln. Our daytime temps have not reached 90 yet, mostly 70's-80's and I have had days where my kiln temps are 120-140. Much hotter than I want. My kiln is made with aluminum skinned foam panels for walk in freezers so the R-value is higher than most of the solar kiln builds.

Did some searching on green house sun shade material and I can get a shade tarp that will work for about $60. The sell them in 30-60% shade. I'm leaning towards the 30%. I will have to rig up a system to raise and lower it easily depending on the day.

If anyone has had some experience with this avenue your comments would be appreciated.

Turns out a standard brick will slide snuggly into a pipe. I shoved 2 in, and deployed it where I dug out the pond connecting channel. It's not near as deep there, and I may have a better chance finding it in a few weeks when I put a go pro down to check it out. That is if I can find my gopro. Aint used it in 2 years.

I watched hundreds of pond videos, and there was a snippet of one of these in the middle of one. He just said what it was. I looked all over for it again but couldn't find it again. So, short answer, not my idea, but it needed more exposure. I found another milk crate stack video, but that was it. No pipes in his.

Tom.

I can see you are looking long term and see a potential windfall here. I promise you if this epistle makes any money I will send you some of it. After all my overhead costs and lawyer fees and the appropriate commission to Jeff and his team (Tammy, Harley and Cedar) there may not be  whole lot left over. :wink_2:

As to the artwork you are right. My 5 y/o GD and my 7 y/o GS are much better artists than I am. Actually they are pretty good at it. I have solicited help from from the other forum members but none have volunteered yet, Resonator is considering it I hear. :wacky:  I think Lynn may ghost write and draw some but he has to find and finish his purple drank Miz Pat hid from him first. :uhoh:

It there are any misrepresentations or failure to properly recollect in the events listed please feel free to publish your recollections and corrections of said events. I would welcome others picking up on this project and print how they heard or imagined the story line. You will note other than some initial confusion about various objects that he seems to think were benches he left somewhere outdoors that Doc has not refuted anything said. ffcheesy

If I have offended you I sincerely apologize and hope all your cuts, bites, bruises, rashes and stings heal quickly. :huh? We would love to hear how you remember or imagine your version.  (Remember to break for paragraphs periodically) ffwave

Drying and Processing / Nyle L200M compressor
Last post by busenitzcww - Today at 10:22:00 AM
I'm just curious what lifespan you guys are getting out of your kiln compressors? I've had mine running pretty much non stop for the last 4 years and it just quit on me. Not sure if that's standard or if I did something to shorten its lifespan?

I grow Floriana corn for corn meal and use a  CS Bell #2 hand grist mill to make cornmeal for mostly pancakes(todays breakfast) and cornbread or as an addition to some soups. I used to sift it to get the bran out but my wife asked that I leave it in.
A couple years ago I took the crank off and hung it on the wall and added a pulley to the mill and an electric motor.

I actually crave  the pancakes if I hadn't had them awhile.

Never seen that before. Great idea. Did you come up with this yourself Jeff, or is it a known design? Either way I am looking forward to see your observations.

Forestry and Logging / Re: Humboldt vs. Conventional

I haven't seen a refusal contract for missing length average but always has a price breakdown for shorter stuff. A close by mill that allows camp run won't buy Doug for under 26' 8". Or I should say won't hardly give anything for it. Peter, I had to google 1/4 scale. I didn't see where it showed longer logs? But definitely appears you would be plugged with logs around here quickly

Man, it's so different over there. So you're just undercutting in about as deep as the flare as low to the ground as possible which means even though you're top cut is taking wood out of the log, it's basically in the waste wood anyways when they mill it? Even the veneer logs? Our veneer logs all goes to plywood and logs are 8' multiples with a huge amount of trim. So a 16' they want 18' log
