Health and Safety / Re: Crazy Papersthey

Seems now I just go full time to dr appointments and tests, but really like the Southside approach to bureaucratic bs.  No one has bothered with trying to send healthcare people to my house, they just call and tell me to show up at what dr office or testing facility. I refuse to fill out census and ag department surveys as well.  Beings I am or was a farmer, get the AG census.  They want to know how many cattle you have, how many you sold and what you got for them and their birthdays.  I don't remember.

That post should be pinned up somewhere. Thanks for putting that photo together Lynn. The leaves vary by height and age and can be VERY different. In scarlet and northern reds this can be a real conundrum, I have have had some 'pointed discussions' over this. ffcheesy We have both here and you have to be really careful to get it right. With my furniture, I just say 'Red Oak" and leave it at that :wink_2: .

Sawmills and Milling / Re: Whatcha Sawin' 2024 ??

I have a resize app on my phone and I resize all of my pictures and delete the unsized pictures before I upload them to my laptop.  I then upload the selected pictures to the FF Gallery.  There is never a hesitation.

That also makes it much quicker for me to text a picture to someone.

Quote from: Otis1 on Yesterday at 07:28:11 PMI'm from the frozen north so I can only agree with the previous replies after looking up scarlet oak. But I wanted to mention that Virginia Tech has a pretty good tree ID app called Vtree. It will find your location and give you the common tree species with pics of the leaves, bark, fruit, buds, twigs, etc.
Agreed.  It's a great app.  Think its called VTree

Quote from: donbj on May 19, 2024, 10:31:13 PMJust remember chainsaws and ladders are two things that do not mix. Just fair warning/caution. I'm sure we've all done it but not a good idea especially if inexperienced. Your mention of tree limbs brought this to mind.
Truth bomb

The Red Oaks can be tricky with their leaves.  Leaves in the tops, middle, and the shade leaves on the bottom can all be very different:

This is the top side of 7 leaves that all came from the same tree.

And here is the underside of those seven leaves.

Health and Safety / myasthenia gravis
Last post by farmfromkansas - Today at 09:33:15 PM
Was diagnosed with this condition yesterday.  Been having issues for the last 6 months and more, but the doctor thought I had a stroke.  Had a CT scan and 2 mri's looking for it.  Finally the optamologist had me do some blood work and found this thing.  Google has quite a bit of info on it, so reading up.  Was planning to have a woodworking retirement, maybe the medication will help. Sawmills and Milling / Re: Horizontal slab shaver.

It's only about three, but I only put 46 hours on the mill in '02 and '03 combined. It's still taking up too much prime real estate.

Health and Safety / Re: Tick Medication
Last post by farmfromkansas - Today at 09:25:12 PM
Was talking to the local librarian the other day, she is having problems with ticks.  I have had a couple stuck to me this spring, but lately not.  Maybe has to do with replacing a lot of ear tags on the cows.

Quote from: Nealm66 on Today at 07:20:25 PMThat's definitely different than how the bigger mills operate here. They have a minimum length average for the higher price as they know scribner will give them a lot of free wood on longer logs with taper
I wouldn't just say higher price, to keep an open purchase order they can have the minimum average length as well.
