I could use that puppy right now. This is the most snow this area has ever seen. Side roads are not plowed and are tough going.
We delivered some supplies to Karen's niece yesterday, they can't get the vehicle out. They live down a steep hill so got in o.k The other way out was down a very steep street, didn't want to try it, so back out the way we came in but it was a bit of a struggle even with good tires and 4wd. +8C (40F) predicted for Saturday which will make for some nasty flooding. :o

Going to be 48F and rain here as well on Saturday into Sunday.

Typical Maritime weather.  ;D Next year, we'll probably have our regular 4 feet of snow pack. :D

I'm not shoveling off the roof. Its built for high snow loads. How high, I hope we dont have to find out. I've always been more fearful of damaging the roof by getting on it with a shovel.  Besides, if I shoveled it off now, all the windows would be covered.

I may have to rethink this.  We have a storm coming in starting tomorrow, starting with freezing rain, then turning to all rain Friday night into Saturday. They are saying heavy rain with maybe even thunder and lightening with potential flood warnings. It ain't going to flood here unless the rest of the world floods, but for the first time ever I'm concerned about the weight.   There is 30" plus of compacted snow on the roof now.

Don't leave it to chance man. I see what 16" snow, heavy rain does to a building. After the last storm on Monday when we had 15" the weather man warned to remove snow because of this mild trend we are having. Man, arctic one day, spring the next.  :-X ::)

They are telling us here we are in for up to 2 inches of rain Saturday.  This will go good with our 2+ feet of snow. ;D

You laugh, but I seen the Tobique River, up in Riley Brook, in 2006 flood and ice move in January, first ever that anyone ever heard of. That place usually don't move ice until April. Now Riley Brook could be Who-Flung-Dung to most anyone, but it's a remote area where the only way up or down is along the river road. Along the river are woodlots and out from there is wilderness. 35 miles east of St Leonard, 30 miles north of Plaster Rock

My basement had 4" water in January, never seen that before neither. My water even went bad for a few days. I'm on top of a hill. ::)

Well, this is what  I've been doing the last two hours and I am completely whooped. I guess I'll go at it again in the morning.  I made the mistake of jumping off the roof in front to get off and I high centered.  :D   Ended up clawing my way out and rolling  until I could get to where Icy had been going up into the yard and had it packed a bit, just so I could find some footing to sit up.  I wanted to get as much done tonight as I could cause this wont be no fun in the rain.

Jeff,

Sorry to see you have to do that. Wise move but, MAN, that is some work. I used to have to shovel my shop "flat" roof do to water leaking in from ice dams, BOY do I hate that work.

My favorite snow is the 32 degree type, that rolls into the gutter and down the downspout. I used to LOVE snow, but now it is mostly a burden if it is more than 5" (for sledding of course, just hung lights on our new run out the front door, we are the offical Tiger Cub sledding site for our pack ;D) We even have snow safety fence and hay bales at the bottom of the run so the boys and girls don't hit any trees. Next year plowing, discing, and contouring the run ;D

Don't over do it on that roof.

My step father had a two cycle little snow blower, that KICKED #$%. That woudl be GOOD to have.

Jeff,

When the rain comes in, you guys be real careful.  Back when I worked at the Pentagon, we keep a running record of the flooding down at the intake building.  The 2nd highest level occurred when we had 48" of snow up on Skyline Drive, I had 32" in Syria, VA and the Manassas area had 22" and than the rain came. And boy did it wash it all down the river.  Man was it ugly in some places.  So when the rain starts, you guys please be real careful.

got a bunch of freezing rain in Peoria area last week.  Official weather bureau had reports of .50 inches to .90 inches
of freezing rain at various towns surrounding Peoria.   My tree branches normally 10-12 feet in the air had their tips touching the ground. That's the one's that didn't break off.  One tree had branches drooping clear to ground and they were blocking on lane of my driveway.  Drove around them so I wouldn't break them off hoping they would survive. Got warmer in 33-34 range Tuesday night and the warm rain melted most of the ice off the trees and by today they were back up to normal height.   I'll be picking up branches for a day sometime in the future.

I keep an extra set of pack boots around and sink hex head sheet metal screws into the lugs, they are @#$% slippery  on concrete, but boy they work SWEET on the ice. Gotta watch the foors in the house though ;)

I'm getting pretty sore from being on that roof. I don't think its from the shoveling so much as the slipping around on awkward footing. I hope I don't wake up all bent over.

Jeff, my daughter and family are down here for Christmas. When she hears about the weather up there she might want to not go home. They have had less snow in Auburn than you have had in Harrison, but she said that she spends a lot of time shoveling their short drive. We get snow down here sometimes, but we just let it melt instead of shoveling. ;D

We call them creepers, can pick them up at the pharmacy. In 2006 winter I had to use them to walk anywhere off the roads and driveway. It was a year of ice and crust.

Jeff had more snow than area's just north or south of Harrison, when I went thought there yesterday.

He must be a snow magnet.        :D

I can feel the pain.   so far this year we been lucky, not much snow, got 2 or 3 ice storms mild ones so far, not like the one 4 yrs ago now. (I still have damage in the woods from that, we had ~3/4" OF ICE)   that was on top of ~6" of snow, I had a lot of good trees come down, the north side of my white pines around the cabin looked like someone dropped a huge limb chopper down the north side, I hauled 6~8 pick up loads of limbs into the back form them & burnt them 3 days straight to get the pile small enough to toss more on :D   we got a green Christmas this year, no snow, same as last year.   but was easier to get to family's house.

Jeff: the house looks good with all that snow around it (not that it wasn't great looking to begin with) but sure glad I don't have t0 deal with that much snow for now..

OK, thats it. Thats all I got. Apparently I had something slip cause my hip hurts to bad now to continue. Hopefully thats enough.  The roof that I didnt get any off of has a much shorter span, so I figure its good unless I get a feeling better later today. We have Christmas here for my side of the family tomorrow so I have to concentrate on cooking and other things for that.
