Well finally got to meet the WV Hillbilly and what a great visit it was. Give him the tour of my personal junkyard and think he was really impressed.  Not to many places you can go where your junk has it's own junk.  We picked through the slab pile, but just about had been cut up two days before for firewood.  That left no option but to make some boards for Dan ta take home with him.  He'd never run a WM before so he got his introduction to big orange today.  Must say he did a fine job (only broke the mill twice :D) and was mighty leery of them uprights and dogs.  First piece on the mill was a gnarly, mossy piece of Chinese Elm.  This tree doesn't have a smooth or flat surface on it. I think it was inflicted with leprosy.  Got some really interesting lumber off that log. Dan will be able to make of of his excellent scroll sawing work from it.  He brought a few pieces with him and if'n ya never seen his work, well, it'll knock your socks off. Just found mine this morning.
Went back to the log pile and pulled two pieces of Box Elder and a Sycamore.  Got some nice and interesting stuff off them also.
Took him to my favorite shopping place as I've been looking at buying a little motor for another phase converter. Dan being an Industrial electrician, I figured this was a good opportunity ta get the motor checked over before buying it.  He says it looks Ok, so got it on hold. Did bring home a 33,000 BTU air conditioning unit.  Shopteacher gonna have a air conditioned wood shop come Aug. when school starts and the shop is about a 100 deg.  ;)
All in all got to meet a great guy and had an interesting and productive day. Don't get much better than that. ;D

Where'd you put the quarter in?

Box Elder

Chinese Elm
Sent him home with a pretty nice load of wood, should keep him sawing for a day or two.

It's always nice to go to someone else's place and play with their toys, something I'm sure I'll never get too old for. :D

Buzz-sawyer

Hy teach does the boxelder retain the bright red coloration in the white wood after sawn and finished?

DanG   I didn't know you was making a photo album  Shopteacher. I was so intent on not sawing part of the mill you got lots of pics . Just my luck when you turned over the controls it run out of gas, I think it was a setup. The other break down was probably one of those $25 parts that cost more to ship than it costs to buy, no problem though just drill a new hole install it and hook up the spring .And I thought you was just  going to show me how to mill not work on the mill too .  ;) . It was fun and a learning experience .  Thank's for the wood,  now if I can get it to dry flat with few  defects .  I think you got one of those Prefered Customer Cards at the metal place . :D

Norm it is great going to other people mills and running them.  The only problem is that my head is starting to hurt with all the choices . The more I look the harder it is to pick one out . I know I like the lumberscale on the woodmizer better than the TimberHarvester  .  Now if I could find someone that needs a place to store a skidder or dozer for a couple of weeks . ;D the only other person I have visited that has more logs in their yard is Mtn Jack cause he is the Tree Service .

I hope the Chinese elm keeps it's color too . It will make some awesome scrollsaw pieces when I'm done with it .

I  also had my official log sawing hat on . It is my older FF hat . Kinda funny I think cause I got a FF hat to wear while workin and on to goto town  with .
