I use a diamond wheel dresser like the one (C) at the below link.  After using one, you'll want to toss the stick dresser (B)  :D.

It's something that you will pick up in time. The instructions help and so does the template that they provide but experience will have you doing it free hand before long.

Get your mind to understand that the shape of the stone is going to be the shape of the tooth.  That's a hard concept sometimes when instructions are telling you how many degrees.

Also, keep in mind that the stone is going up and down even though it is tilted.  That tends to warp ones mind as well.  The trick is to make your mind see the relativeness of the tooth shape in a tilted stone.  It has more to do with up and down motion than it does the plane of the stone.

Leave your stone turned off and let the sharpener slowly advance. Rock the stone back and forth as it passes over the tooth and down in the gullet. You can feel the resistance of too much grinding in spots and too little resistance in other spots. Adjust those spots on the stone with your dresser.

Don't let a running stone touch the blade until you have even contact all over the tooth.  You start with an ever so light touch on the face grind and don't allow it to become heavy regardless of what else you do.

I dress my stone lightly before each blade.  I do it with the blade in the sharpener so that I can see the back slope of the tooth at the same time I'm putting that angle on the stone.  then I just toutch the botton of the stone (level) and then put a very small radius on the part that does the gullet.  I spend about 5 seconds doing the entire dressing process.  Starting a new stone I do the same way,  just takes longer.

I recommended the diamond wheel dresser because it is easier and faster to shape the profile using it rather than the stone one that comes with the sharpener. Just a thought  :).
