Do any of you guys have a hand tach to measure band wheel rpms? I run my saw with a hand held throttle and listen to the engine while cutting, sure would be nice to know the proper engineered speed.

Not sure, but would suggest calling wmz, if all is original it should be whatever the specs are for that given engine.  If I remember correctly my cat 51 runs at 3000 engine rpm's,  david

But mine has a liquid cooled kawi on it and not and original pulley either.

Does your engine have a digital tach on it?  It's a simple task to calculate your bandwheel RPM's if you know the engine speed.

I have a digital hand tach and can get my speed but what I'd like to know is what is the factory speed?

Pineywoods had a mod he did with a bicycle speedometer from Wal-Mart that he put on his band wheel, that way he could tell when he was losing band speed in the cut. It is a mod I intend to copy soon ;)

That bicycle speedometer mod was a real eye opener. Showed the band speed to be in the neighborhood of 50 mph. I now have a newfound respect for the possibility of scrap steel exiting the sawdust chute.

I was thinking that the wmz's run at 30mph,band speed, I often thought it could be faster, but speeds and feeds are the name of the game,  never have ran the numbers, but blade geometry is most critical in the speed,     david
