Thanks for the video. Why did I stay up all night when I can just watch it like that?   ;D

Now the cleanup work begins, and clamping the sponson's onto the starboard side. Some say that will go quickly and the ship will be raised and floated away.

Amazing what $500 million can do, but looks well engineered and planned out (and successful). A lot of naysayers likely a bit disappointed their predictions didn't come to pass.

The plan appears to be 1) do structural repairs on the starboard side; 2) attach the flotation/ballast chamber on the starboard side to match the one on the port side; 3) fill the chambers with water to keep the ship sitting firmly on the underwater platform; 4) wait out the winter storms; 5) pump out the chambers and float the ship next spring to be towed to the wreckers.

Meanwhile, now that the ship is upright they want to search for the bodies of the two missing passengers. The also need to remove a lot of contaminated material, including decomposed food, sewage, chemicals, etc. And they plan to open the safes found in each cabin and return the contents to the owners.

There was an show on Discovery tonight that documented the entire operation.  Impressive engineering feat.

It'll cost at least twice as much to turn it into scrap as it took to build it :(.

That's a pretty lousy return on investment.

Well, tomorrow the Costa Concordia ship which has been floating on its 30 attached tanks for the last 10 days, will be towed away for salvage, leaving the Island of Giglio where she has rested for just over 2 ½ years.

She is all trussed up and the sea is calm according to reports so moving is scheduled at a slow pace beginning tomorrow.

Webcam live for watching, and it is about 4:30 am in Giglio now.

Was licensed to haul butts years ago and this whole thing makes me cringe. As former Captain Rob ....What was this guy thinking. Amazing engineering , astounding....

That will be very expensive scrap. It has been quite a project.
