You got a heck of a deal Pat! Nice looking mill. Mine are similar but have the added "rust" option.

Jim, the winch on your mill looks just like the factory winch that's on my FIL's 1992 LT-40 manual mill.

Pat,  That looks like a mighty fine mill.

Jim, it looks like there is a tree sprouting up under your mill.   :D  If you leave it a bit longer you could just cut the tree downs and drop it right onto the bed and saw it up. smiley_beertoast smiley_beertoast

Ok now i got problems.....i'm suppose to be cleaning my yard , and get things ready to sell my house , now i'm milling lumber for no reason at all , i was going to make boards for my trailor, but my log was to short so now i got some nice oak 2x10x10 and some 4x4x8's and and thinking about going to cut some more logs !!! :o i gotta stop!!lol

Jim H

Awesome deal on the mill, I started out with one just like that. The magnum 16 kohler was tough, never gave me any trouble. The woodmizer ramps have 1/2" cleats every 6 or 8 inches to help the log roll evenly up the ramps instead of sliding the lighter end up ahead of the heavy end. If you have any trouble with that when using the winch you could easily weld some short pieces of 1/2" square stock on top of the ramps.     Jim

thanks  Jim H , i fill a little stupid i didn't weld any on mine cause i thought that they were on there so if u was hand rolling logs up ramp for extra traction lol!! that makes a little more sence, i learn something new everyday!!

Pat...that's the best reason of all for milling lumber. ;)

Not to change the subject, but I read in this thread about moving to Alaska and good salmon fishing. I'd suggest everyone to search and educate themselves about whats really going on in Fukushima before eating any seafood out of the Pacific ocean. The whole situation has been seriously downplayed here in the States. The Pacific currents flow right up to Alaska from Japan and down the west coast of the US. The radiation in the food chain is going to get real bad in the future and with a half life of 100,000 years,it will be there for a while.

Where are you located?  Pls update your bio, it would help. ;)

For certain there will be those who make such predictions, and I'd suspect the industry and the Gov't are not downplaying the danger, but are monitoring it.

This says that there will not be any problems:

But, the NSA said that they were not collecting data on U.S. citizens. ::)

Just for people's information. Fukushima's meltdown has caused  leaching of highly radioactive water in the estimate of 400 metric tons per day into the sea since the earthquake and is still doing so. The site sits on top of an aquifer and groundwater flows through there collecting radiation from the huge melted blobs uranium rods that are like lava reacting away in the ground. I just want to bring it to people's attention and do your own searching.

I have the same identical saw. I have had it for at least 10 years. I had a machine shop fab a bracket that hooks on the main rail and mounted a small electric winch on it to parbuckle logs up the ramps. Mine has the original boat winch on the front and I have a home made socket that fits on the drive and we use a cordless drill instead of the hand crank.
