Hi folks, have a question for all.  My husky 55 has become very hard to crank over.  Last couple of times that I have tried to start it, pull the cord a few times and forget it.  This fall it was a harder to turn over but it seemed to ease up then it would start.  Once it was running everything was good it would run and cut the same as ever.

I thought that I would give it a once over, maybe take it to the dealer/shop and see what they would have to say.  I know that the new husky  55 rancher is on sale at $440,  so any possible repairs would have to be well under $200.

Any ideas whats wrong with it?  take bets?  To the best of my knowledge the only gas used was my mix roughly 45-1 with stabilizer.

Don't know if this is the problem or not, but I have a 266xp that was the same way.
It felt like 1/2 again as much compression as it should have. Turned out to the spool
on the recoil starter. The spool had split/cracked at the hub and flared out making it
wider and binding up. New starter and back to normal.

Recoil is a good start, after that maybe carbon buildup. Is the starter hard to pull 100% of 360° or just when the piston is near TDC?

Had a 55 Husky at work and it pulled over really hard then 1 day the cord broke and when it was fixed the cord was a little shorter and it pulled over much easier. Im not sure but maybe it had to much cord in it causing it to bind up. Could this be a possibility with your saw also?

Brought the saw in and started looking into it.  Pulled the plug, all looks good little carbon and no score marks.  Next was the recoil, tail on the cord was a little long from a fix in the bush last winter.  Clipped that.  Pulled the handle, not a smooth pull but not bad.  With the plug out can very easily turn the motor over.  Replaced the plug and the resistance is as expected yet still an easy turn.

Replaced the recoil, same hard pull as before.  Time to pull the recoil right apart.

I had the same problem with a Husky 51.  Great saw.  sometimes it was all I could do to get it over top one rev on the first pull, the more I pulled the easier it got.  Took it to the dealer a couple times and of course the problem was never present.  I finally gave it away to a friend in dire need of a saw as it was sort of a 'shelf queen'.  I'll give him a call and suggest he look at that recoil.

Opened up the recoil.  no matter how carefull you are.... spriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!!!! :D

Couldn't find anything wrong but everything around the spring was really gummy, mix of sap and grease I guess.  Cleaned everything up, rewound the spring and assembled. Saw is easier to turn over now yet havn't given it a real go yet.  Maybe I have my backup saw again, don' t like taking the skidder out with only the one saw.

Now to figure out the ms250 problems.
