Real nice boards there...Looks like red oak bark. definitely something else on the inside. my experience is that red oak only spalts in the sapwood, of which there is usually just a little. real Purdy stuff though, whatever it is.

What a terrific Thread! All the different pictures of the slabs would make a nice book. Hello Poston LT40 HD, Them hooks that MagicMan uses can be had in Tow Truck supplies catalog's, they have many sizes and shapes, tips may need sharpening.  Coverture may need modification, They are pricey! Maybe check with Opperators of tow trucks they may have a stock of used where chains or hooks on other end break.  "GOD BLESS and Happy New Year  Everybody"
