056Mag air filter

Hey everyone, I rebuilt my 056magII about 3 years ago but the saw hasn't seen a lot of use since it's rebuild. Recently had a large ash to buck up so I figured it was time. I ran about 2 tanks of gas through it before switching over to the 084 to finish the log since it had the bigger bar on it. Anyway I was cleaning up the 056 and was surprised to find saw dust inside the filter. it's the mesh filter not the flocked. I've tried finding new air filters for this saw but had no luck after i rebuilt it. The filter has no holes in it, it's snaps together tightly and I know it's bolted to the carb properly. It's not in bad shape which is why I'm surprised there was saw dust inside the filter. What should I do? Fabricate a new mount and use a K and N filter? What are you guys doing? Thanks

Keep on the lookout for a NOS flocked filter, they do come up occasionally on fleabuy. Have your wallet out & opened up when you find one.

After you find one, spray it down with PJ-1 "fabric" air filter oil made for motorcycles, and the fine dust goes away.

I know you don't like to see dust in there. But, it is not that big of a deal. Those saws were very reliable other than the ignition.

With the mesh filter... or a flocked one with the flocking disintegrated... cut a square of air cleaner foam and place it inside the filter if you're worried about it getting fines inside

Strange that. I've replaced 1 bosch ignition module in a saw thats had three rebuilds and is now at the "retired to woodheap" point. Everyone always mentions the bosch ignition as the bad point in them but based on mine I wonder what the fuss was about. But I used to carry two spare air filters in the field back in the day when it was my primary saw... always seemed to be choking them up with dust and at lunch I'd stop and clean air filters so I could get through to beer o'clock.
