Does anyone know what species of birch these pictures contain? I think they are white birch but they certainly don't look like text book white or yellow birch. They are part of a managed forest cut where all white birch is to be cut and yellow left to grow. I really don't want to cut the wrong species. I took aa couple of pics of the tops but they didn't turn out well enough to post. They have more off white color bark up top than the silverish gray look. Thanks for your help!

I'm not an expert, but I have both yellow and white on my property. This looks like an older white birch that grew up in a wooded area not in a field. It also does not look like my yellow birch at all.
Hope this helps.

To me it looks more like a yellow birch, a narly old one.  Can you get a couple of buds off it to see if they taste like wintergreen.

Hi. The one on the first photo is a white birch but with a strange bark ( trees are like us, look alike with some difference  :D  we can see that it is peeling ) The second one maybe a white birch but if it grows in a land that was disturbed many years ago could be a gray birch, those are often seen here in Québec, they look like white birch but do not peel and are intolerant ( they like sunlight not shade ). Have a nice day

I am sure no expect, but I had some white birch that looked just like that second picture. They was big trees and about 70-80-90 year old. The center had a big red heart.
