I like it...I dont feel it is our responsibility to subsidize the entire 3rd world, europe and eastern european nations...to mention a few.
Start with the reciprocal tarriffs and add on for economic imbalances and political pressure.........
Like when someone like China starts playing with our dollar , DID you know they hold the second largest amount of dollars in the world??? They are currently devaluing our currency to maintain a trade benefit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is more to trade than equal tarriffs.

The US is currently and has for many years been in a trade war with Europe.

The European countries have thier third world countries attached to them where they bring things like bananas and sugar cane from at a subsidised rate to help those counties.

The US admin is trying to force the European countries to stop doing this so the bananas and sugar cane from the US controlled countries can be traded with Europe (no doubt subsidised by the US).  Because Europe refuses to do this the US has put 100% plus tarriffs on European made products that have nothing to do with the products they are trying to get into Europe.

No trarriffs on products needed in the US just things like wool products from small villages, etc, etc, etc.  ALL of the high trarriffs have been put on products that affects little companies.

make your mind up whos playing the trade game right and who is throughing the weight around???

So far, no-one has mentiones FOOD in this debate. Doesn't the US produce the food that feeds most of the world ???  Lets make FUEL. Let the Chinese EAT their cheap goods. Let the Arabs DRINK their oil. Lets quit sending all the FREE money to Israel.

Right now, every Wally World store is jam-packed. If all you men would put yer foot down, and keep your women from shopping  for 1 week, you would see a big difference.  ::) ::)

Don't forget yer neighbors up north who produce way more food than they could ever sell nationally or even consume. ;)

SD, usually when I talk about the US, Canada is just considered to be in the same statement. It's when Y'ALL MESS- UP, is when I single out Canada.  ::) ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D

Bullseye, S-D. I like it. F-D, if everything I consume had to be produced in Canada, where would a large portion of your citrus fruit go? Which, by the way, I can't get enough of.
On the other hand, you think oil and natural gas prices are high now. What would happen if Alberta turned the taps off? Protectionism sounds fine in the short term but is a no-win situation.
I agree whole heartedly with Charlie and Ron. There is no room here, especially in my toolbox, for JUNK. If it is of good quality and priced fairly, I am in but this discount crap frustrates me. I could not find a decent t-handle torx driver last weekend. I could have waited for the Snap-On truck this week and while I love their tools, I could not justify the cost for one five minute job

Brazil is the biggest Citrus Grower in the world, now. Most Citrus grown in the US is by Mega-Companies. Little guys do not get a big price. They establish Niche markets.

I never said that Canada should be excluded from trade with the US  ??? ??? I SAID Arabs, Chinese and Israelites. We do NOT need to be in the Middle East Desert. Let them fight amongst themselves.

Except for one thing, OIL. This was a bigger issue, the "weapons of mass destruction" was the excuse.

I am not necessarily in agreement with your oil theory

however, JUST assuming it were true so???? ..........
.what...............
If it is necessary to fight to keep the WORLDS oil reserves out of the hands of tyrants and mad men what is the problem???

If it is necessary to fight to keep AMERICA moving so what is the problem?

I dislike the implication many, (not necessarily you though), put forth that America is a tyrannical super power running wild destroying peace loving nations for our OIL lust.....
thats just my take on it :)

Our manner of living and way of life are worth fighting for.........

I'm only gonna refer to post number 2 and say no more. I've got nothing more to contribute to this particular thread. ;)
