Wood splitter pump

I am just putting this out there to see if anyone know anything about this hydraulic pump I have. Any info will be greatly appreciated. It's a Garwood pump. I really just need to know what size engine I need to run it. The part number is 2030835.

Welcome to the forum Blunt.

Garwood made a lot of high quality winches, some hydraulic power.  A lot of the old pumps were low pressure and ran off a truck motor so power was not an issue.  No idea about your pump with that number.

I have one here that I researched a couple hours on google.  Best I could come up with was that it put out 500 psi.  Not near high enough pressure for a log splitter.

Hope somebody comes up with a better answer as my thoughts were of little help.

Right now I have 5 hp powering the pump. When I try to split a log it stalls the engine. I think I might have to get a larger engine. I tryed to attach a picture but I have problems. Thanks again.

Welcome.
Go to home page, and near the bottom is a primer thread on posting pics. Not difficult, but there is a procedure.
If your pics are in .jpg format, then you set up an album with a name in your gallery.
Click the line below that says "Click here to add Photos to post" and you will be taken to a window where you upload pics. After that, when you click that you can choose the "My Gallery" tab from the menu line and then just click your pic. It will enlarge, at which time you SCROLL down a page or to where the button "Insert Image to post" is found. Answer Yes and your pic will be in your post. Select the Preview button before the Post button to verify all is well.

My splitter works well with a two-stage pump and an 8hp engine. No experience with a 5hp.

Bbblunt, I'm doing some guessing here, that pump is probably a fairly high volume, low pressure pump. Log splitters need a 2 stage pump, actually 2 small pumps running in parallel. One of them has a bypass valve that opens at 350-400 psi cutting the load on the motor rather than stalling it.


Pics here are handled a bit different than most places. Each member is given a photo storage area that is separate from the posts. It's called a gallery and uploaded pics are stored there. What goes in the post is a link to the photo in your gallery. There's some big advantages for doing it that way.
