Yeh I'm sure they would I don't know much about the 350/380/450 all I have ever been around is 200 series machines I bet a 450 with either a 453t or a 6bt would pull quite a twitch tho. Is there much difference between your 380 and a 450

the 350 we had was a 3 cylinder turbo , the older 450 was a 4 cylinder but no turbo but had lots of power with a 3 speed trans.

My 380 is a short frame. The 450 is long frame and has bigger axles same body though. smaller than the 460 .

Yeh if it's like the stuff I'm in now and 70 to 75 feet tall that must be around 2.5 but idk which is a good twitch hemlock draggs hard! Around here the mills all buy pulp buy the ton and of course logs by the board ft but we  still unofficially figure stuff by the cord guess old habits die hard haha

I see you say the 450 is smaller than the 460 which makes sense but a buddy of mine has a 460 and we recently bought the 450, they both have 28l 26 tires, ours is a dual arch his is single and our machine is same height, same width but longer frame... the distance between axles is longer on our 450..is that because its the dual arch? also the front end of our machine is longer than the 460...idk if its because his is a couple years newer? the front section of the frame is longer though then his 460 as well as the back section..idk why or if our 450 is an extended frame or something... does that make any sense? could the axles be mounted farther forward in the front and farther back in the rear then a single arch 460? I always assumed the 450 was smaller but in this case its actually bigger then his 460... now im confused haha!

Back to the man looking at the timberjack..if it has a 453 itll sip fuel, nothing like the cummins, our little treefarmer with the 353 barely uses any fuel, granted its a cable machine but still its a strong pulling machine and the fact that it sips fuel is great, id say we dont burn more than 5 gallons in that little detroit and thats working her all day... before we had the motor tuned is used a little more fuel, but properly tuned detroits run great, I was very skeptical at first about the detroit but the more i run it and the more i learn it i absolutely love it! easy to work on, but not easy on the ears! She's deffinitley a screamer! The turbo models I hear are a lot quiter but have never heard one run..

I'm going to look at a late 70's model 450 this weekend. Does anyone have any information about the 450's?

CCC4

I have operated about 10 450c in the last 3 years. Good machines, easy to operate, easy to work on, can run from 28L to 35.5 tires with no issue.

The other day our OP pulled like 2 drags on a full tank if fuel before breaking down...next morning tank was bone dry, now that is some fuel consumption!! Lol! Reckon some tweaker had anything to do with that???? Lol! Thieving idiots!!!

Jws_78

Ccc4, have you ever been around the older 450's? I need to know if I can haul on on a gooseneck trailer and a 3500 dually pickup, or do I need something bigger?

so il logger

I don't know about the older model 450 but I have a 95 c model. Mine has the big rear ends and 30.5 32 tires. I would not haul mine behind a pick up, around here it is not uncommon to see a 440 or a 225 being towed on a gooseneck behind a 1 ton but a 450c or 540 or 640 never

coxy

you have a bigger set than me if you want to haul a 450on a 1ton even the older ones have to be close to if not more than 10ton jmop  :) :) :)

My 450C had 24.5 rubber and I made the mistake of trying to put in on my tag trailer, barely fits on a good straight shot. I don't care cable or grapple you would have to be short of brain cells to try and haul a 230-240-450- 540-640 on a tag trailer behind a 1 ton truck. A chained up 440D weighs over 17000 so your instant CDL including truck +trailer, if you ever had an accident or got into DOT and put on scales you might as well just give up right there.  :D

loggah

Put it on a tag along behind a pickup. and you will spend the rest of the week straightening the trailer, and putting new springs in the one ton !!!!!

and im hesitant to put my 450c with 30.5x32 on the 25 ton tag. little sketchy loading and unloading if not perfectly level, (over a foot of tire hanging off on each side)

The ride off the trailer seems worse than it really is, you have so much ground clearance you won't know it. Don't ask me how I know this.  :D  got a rear tire slightly off when loading, which only got worse when I went to unload, tried to slide it with the grapple which compounded it. Never again. Lowboy only.

yeah but hate to make a mess of a 2 year old 25ton cam superliner, ;)

timberjack 450

We used to put my 450b single arch on a tagalong for years. It had 28l tires. I just bought a 450c with 24.5 tires and dual arch. That will be going on a 25 ton tag along also. Can't get in a lot of our roads with a low boy. Once my 450b had a back wheel fall off the trailer. Made me sit up but never went over, not even close. By the way I am looking for a good used 24.5 tire.

I've got a 450 single arch 3 speed Clark power shift 453 Detroit gearmatic winch. She had been robbed of her hydraulic filter. Donaldson filter system in tank. Hydraulic oil return to tank. Its a filter cartridge. Missing from the machine when I brought it home. Tk 450 Ser #452788. Can someone get a part number for this filter please. Thanks.
