So many guys talk detroit on the FF I figured I would post some pics every once in a while. I'm no detroit wizard, did a little in school and did a 4 day class in FL, they are slowly becoming extinct.
Just leaking jumpers, just irritating things that shouldn't happen. 1 happens, 3-4 is a bit much. Someone swapped injectors, jumpers and a governor and didn't check for leaks when done.  :D  that engine got a dirty rebuild a few months ago, the one behind it is up to 1 gal a day of oil consumption / drip, try and get 3-4k hrs more out of it, has 36k already.

they look like copper lines? never seen that before.

Those crossover lines are prone to cracking. That can happen at anytime.

don't shoot me I have to ask why do some of you make your piles long and low how come you don't push them up higher  I never have a landing that big I would get lost on yours  :D

Coxy, I typically only pile as high as the top of my bunks (when I have plenty of room). Two reasons, it gets slower piling higher than that because you can't see very well, and it becomes hard to keep the pile neat. It's also more dangerous for the truck drivers to load out of the tall piles. However, sometimes we get tight landings too, and then we go vertical ;) I've had to make piles nearly as high as the forwarder would reach before, maybe pushing 20'-25' I'm not sure. Next time I have to do one of those I'll take some pictures.

is that pine logs  glad you have more snow than us  :D

timberlinetree

Oak. The snow is not good right now. It is making it not freeze up underneath. This has been a strange winter.

The last of the good patch.  Moving into areas with a lot more unmerchantable regen now.

Man, you lads are in some nice wood.

The heavy snow in the regen of this storm damaged stand was a pain.  Wanted to mention to any of you that are on the tall side that stihl will make custom cutter pants for a bit extra.  Ordered a couple pairs last summer and they have been great.

Coxy ,the reason the piles are low on my landing is I sell mixed hardwood for firewood . By mixing every load (species)  ,  every load is the same.

   End of day.

   Road home.   :)

Finally remembered a camera. Who says you can't cut hardwood sawlogs with a processor. Pile of 10' logs. Biggest in this pile is around 30" I think.

First cut in a 21" Hard Maple.

Felling cut in the same tree.

And its rotten so I tried bucking off a couple cookies to get it to clean up.

After an 8' pulp stick it finally cleared up.

So I cut a 10' log out of it.

Some of it is shaky but the only market for logs is Canada. Finch is paying $102/cord as pulp so that's where it goes.

In Ontario, $102/cord wouldn't cover the costs.  At least $50/cord to the trucker to haul it to the mill, $25 to the land owner, leaving $25 for the logger, to pay for what?  Coffee?

I know Canadian dollars are different but I could only dream of that price per chord, try 33$ a chord hemlock and 21$ for pine delivered.

Sending a self loader load of pine nets me around 80$, luckily it comes out attached to logs.

Nice spruce from today:

Yes was trying to qoute northernloggers post but it didn't work I guess

Nice maple, Chevy! Good on ya' for cutting those saw logs without cracking them in half. I've seen a lot of processor operators that can't seem to understand that it isn't a saw log anymore when you split the ends ::)

I'll second that barbender.  All of the log buyers we deal with love that many of ours are hand cut, because there are so many "production oriented" crews that split astronomical amounts of butt logs. People just don't care anymore. =\

I've often wondered this myself. Why ruin the most valuable part of the log. We cut with a Quadco intermittent and yes there is a occasional mishap. 99% of our logs are not split and we were just cutting some nice hard maple.

Nice photos Chevy. Enjoyed them. Glad you remembered the camera.

Haven't had trouble with splitting logs.  Maybe these log splitting operators should use sharp chains?

wannaergo

I think it's mostly guys that push too hard while cutting them off the stump. Or yes, dull chains
