Autocar

Trucking logs into Indiana today I came to a intersection and there was construction on the road and they had a flager directing traffic. But in stead of directing he was texting, a car was setting in the center of the intersection not knowing what to do. When I left home this morning there building a condo south of me in this town. A fellow was standing on the foundation texting I wonder how much time employers lose to this. I guess theres a time and place for texting but on the jobs not one of them in my opinion.

After the guy ran over the duck boat in Philadelphia and killed 2-3??? People a few yrs ago all the boat companies have strict anti cell phone policy while on watch. I keep mine on me all the time but there is a time and place for it.

I help auctioneers out part-time by running won items to the winners. One auctioneer had his grandson helping, he couldnt have been but 9-10 years old.
Well, it was his turn not far into the auction and there he was texting. I gave his father credit, he quickly corrected the situation, and I will say it was an old school correction.....

I see this with police officers the most, state and local. Had one state police officer behind a phone truck (there were two more in front ??) By my house last year. I pulled up behind him and waited a couple of minutes for direction. Finally his window went down and he stuck his hand out and waved me by. This was on the crest of a hill and I cogent see over it. Just as I pulled by another car was coming over the hill, having been signaled by the other trooper. ::)

I know someone who was a police chief in another town that really liked to crack down on rent a cops that didn't get out of their cars or were using their phone white directing. More than one trooper was called back to the barracks over that.

I rented a 450j for a big job last fall, I found a phone charger plugged in to the power outlet when I got there.  Quickly made sense why there wasn't much on the landing.

He never did ask how it got cut in half though.

My wife spends about all night on her's. On it from the time I get home till I go to bed. She bought my boy a ipad, and it didn't take me long to hide that one. I'm glad he is 4 and already wanting to go hunting, we are going to start out with squirrels this fall.

I was stopping for a red light last week in a empty log truck last week and got rear ended by a young man while he was texting. Luckily no one was hurt but he banged up the front of his Pickup pretty good.

It's only lucky no one was hurt if he learns and stops doing that.  If he doesn't and kills somebody, I wouldn't call it lucky.

The title reminds me of a conversation with my wife last weekend.  We were in the big city for a night and watched an elderly couple with a map out planning their drive.

Now I have grey hair (but lots of it  8) ), and am not afraid of paper maps.  I'm comfortable with all kinds from topos to more complex forest management plans and land use maps etc.

Most of the "tappy generation" are scredoodled if their batteries die and their googleificationmaps don't load.  They just sit their wondering where they are and how they're going to get to the next place.  Kinda funny but kinda pitiful that we've lost some of the basics along the way.

Engima t120your exactly right. I hope that little bump woke him up. But I'm glad he didn't hurt himself or me and my son. I just wish they was some way that you couldn't text while driving I see it every day and it scary.

My boss communicates with us almost entirely via text. the idea being that instead of having us stop work to answer the phone. we can read our messages when where have a moment. it may look like we are texting all the time but we are ordering materials, parts, equipment...

starmac

My last boss would text everybody every night with directions for the next day. One other hand and I both told him we bought our phones to talk on not read, so if he typed instead of talked, we didn't get his messages period.

The last 2 and a half weeks I have been on the missile defense sight, absolutely no phones, no cb's or company radios, infact no communication of any kind, it has been kind of refreshing.

We have a NO texting law here in Ohio but for what I see it's not worth the paper it is written on. About like the same law no open containers in a vehicle and you see people buying a giant can of beer and drink it on there way home from work, then throw the empty out along the road. Always wondered why the cops didn't set up a few blocks from a carry out and do a random pull overs.

For most of the summer while in in the trees we don't get cell service either. Love it! We just use our phone for music! helps give rhythm and break up the noise of the equipment
