I have the new photo system ready to go. Some of you may find it awkward at first but hopefully you will learn to like it. The following statements and instructions are in no paticular order. :D  I'll add to this as I think of things.

The new system is essentially a personal photo gallery for every registered member.  It is tied to your user name and password and each picture you use on the forum will be kept in albums that you create in your gallery. Photos are added to the forum by copying code from your pictures and pasteing that in your post to make the picture appear, pretty much like you did with the old gallery.

Gallery photos are intended for use on the forestry forum. These albums are not private and are viewable by anyone, but can only be added to by a registered member. The one strict rule I will have on use is, if you have a picture in your gallery that appears within the forum, you must not ever delete it or we will lose the photo from the thread.

The amount of space you have in your gallery is tied to the number of posts you have. The different member groups have different amounts of photo space.

Getting Started

Go to the gallery at https://forestryforum.com/gallery
If you are logged on to the forum, you will also be logged on there. You will also see a link to the gallery when you go to make a post by clicking the "Additional options" link.

You might want to read over the FAQ's by clicking the link at the top of the gallery page.

You must create an album before you can upload pictures.
You need to be in "Admin mode" to create albums or upload photos to your albums.

There are a lot of options within the gallery. Look around and try to help each other as you figure things out.

I would like a note from the person that feels they are the first to add a photo to the forum from thier new photo Gallery. :)

I need a nap. :)
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Don't know if I'm the first but I did it
I did it  ;D

;D :P ;D
Look for the little bitty letters just below the photo and don't forget the image tag box from the row above the post like it used to be.......Got that ???

Not sure if it works in mac, but by clicking on the copy code button, it should copy that code. You dont have to see it. :) Remember code isnt anything complex. Its simply the photo address between two image tags. Thos tags tell the photo to appear in the post.  Without the tags, and just the address, you still get the picture, you just have to click on the link to see it.

Far as I know Joan, you were first! :)

Another request would be to please dont upload photos that already exist in the other galleries. Its just a waste of your space as all the previously uploaded photos are all still available and will remain in thier original galleries.

Has anyone noticed the "e-card" system yet? :)

Spruce bunny got her porky on not to long after I opened the gallery. Shes got dat photo thing down!

I would like some commentary on this thing. I realize its still going to be tough for everybody it was always tough for, but I still am of the mind, that if you really want to post pictures, you will take the time to learn how it is done.  :)

Question, what is the downside with using the attachment method?

Too true Jeff, those of use who have some pics to share are challenged by the process of showing everyone the 'good stuff' we've taken pics of

Kevin

The downside is that all the photos are dumped into one big unmanagable heap again for one. Another is tha file names are stripped so they can not be used again somewhere else easily, the third is that they must always be at the bottom of the post, the fourth is that it makes it TO easy to post and those that want to flood us with junk will, how many more do you want? :)

This system took me a ton of time and I never would have done it if there was an adequate system in place. I would be willing to even go back to the original way if someone wants to volunteer to sort the next 10.000 photos.

I would certainly volunteer if all the pictures looked like number 80 on the "Animals" section!   :D

I LOVE IT!  I've got a few pictures out there and didn't even have to read the instructions - much.

Sometimes you snap a picture and not know what you have until you get home and look at it.   I like this one.

I got my pics into my album very easily and ran them through the jpg optimizer like I always did but now I have to somehow change the file to a allowed file because I keep getting jpg file not allowed . I have windows xp and use my microsoft picture it to reduce picture size and then the jpg optimizer so I guess when before I pull my pic out of "picture it" I must make the change there to the allowed file type. Hep me Hep me !   :D

Your gallery number is also the same as your forum number. Maybe some of you didnt realize it, but in the big change over the new software assigned everyone a number, and that number also represents what number your registration was. I got lucky and was number 1. :D

Anyhow, knowing that, I should be able to configure a link that appears in everyone's profile that will take you to thier personal photo gallery.  You can also link to your gallery from a website. :)

Jeff

Ungle Buck, are you talking about the gallery? or the attachment manager? The Attachment manager is the only place you should get a not allowed warning. That is set to only accept .txt, .doc and .pdf files.

You can not upload and attach photos from a post box any longer.

What's this number?  Where do you see your number?  I want to be number 007.

Well Jeff...all I can say is that ya have done one dang fine job tha last week or two...movin' and changing the forum software...gettin' cut on...sortin' all dem pictures...setting up a new member photo gallery...

Now when ya first said ya was gonna do all this in the record time that ya set...

I thought to myself "when pigs fly" 8)

So I guess this is a dual purpose post...to give ya a big attaboy...and to post my first pix with the new picture postin' tek-neek ;D :D ;D

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends, if they're okay, then it's you.

Jeff

Well it do appear that some of ya are taking to it O.K.  One thing about this system, if ya put 17 of the same photo in yer gallery, everybody will know it. :D  Actually, this should make it very convenient for most people. 9 times out of 10 when you are looking for a photo, its your own, and this is great for that.

I DO like the feature you have in the "image Archive" that lets you search for a post that has a pictue in it.

Will that be possable with the new photo gallery?
