Does anyone have a way to modify a standard snatchblock into a self-release snatch block?

DDW_OR

a standard block needs support from both sides.
a self release has a larger center support.

best option is to spend the $ and buy one, you will be using it for years.

The member who was selling them directly at a VERY reasonable price (APM) ended up selling them through someone else, the last I saw, it was for sale on some website of another equipment manufacturer (or equipment seller). Unfortunately, I can't remember where. I do remember that with all the middlemen involved, the price was up to about what everyone else is selling self-releasing snatch blocks for.

Edit: found it! Those self-releasing snatch blocks are now sold here:

There are several designs out there. I believe APM may have based his on the Farmi design.

Here is what my other self releasing snatch block looks like:

I will have to get some pictures of the one I just made. Long story short I took a scrap rear car hub from a FWD car similar to this one,  took the studs out and welded a cable pulley from cheaper traditional snatch block onto the hub. Welded a couple anchor supports and it works great! When I worked as a car mechanic I always saved old hubs for making ATV trailers and things of that nature.

Here is the one I made from the car hub. Used it again this weekend, worked perfect.
