a unique coffee table

I've never seen anything like this before. I don't know who built it and I don't have a better picture. My daughter sent it to my wife and my wife sent it to me.


 

It has succulents and moss between the two slabs. Really stunning work, IMO!

I like that "living river" look. I think I'll split a live edge slab with the split looking like a wandering river.

Is the middle filled with epoxy ?

I think the middle is "alive". Looks like a metal base was used? Looks like angles iron? Than a lip on top of the metal.  Than the boards fastened to that.
A neat idea. I betcha that would sell.

It looks to me like the plants are in a tray. That type of plant doesn't need much soil or water.

The slab business is BIG! And I'm not talking about pine. These are hardwood that will last a lifetime. Expensive yes but he is selling them and he is driving all over hecks dang over delivering them.

Yes, I know Ralph's prices are sky high but when you walk through his shop and see people rubbing slabs with sand paper, you get an idea of the work that goes into them. I, personally, would be embarrassed also but he has trucks, saws and people to pay. I love those tables made with a slab sitting on top of stumps but imagine the work.

That table is nice, Don't know if someone lean on the edge will have the top on your feet. ;)

I just keep it in perspective, Man cuts the log, sand it down, put some shiny stuff on it done.
The father is the one that puts all the color in it.
Most times you can get the half rotting logs for free.
Or get a log just off the stump for less that a $1.00 a BF.
Just me, I guess.

I was having some connectivity problems when I wrote that I don't think Ralph pays for any logs. All he has to pay is equipment cost, maintenance cost, payroll, insurance, etc. Then he pays his personal bills. I know that despite those prices he isn't rich even though he works his butt off.
