First the story, then the question
Was looking at Ebay the other day and down in the suggested items boxes (dont ya hate when they do that??)  comes up a 576 Husky for purdy cheap money buy it now,,actually real cheap. For some reason I clicked on it figuring it to be just another worn out junker that somebody needed rid of. The thing looks real good in the pics, 24" bar and chain looks like new, isnt beat up or broken, sorry didnt think to take a picture, so next thought is must be burned up. I was interested enough to read on and it supposed to run as new,, ya right!! Its too cheap whats wrong with it?? I read on and its at a pawn shop and they just listed it a couple minutes before and it says warranted to run as new and if you dont like it for any reason return it for full refund. Have I mentioned that it was CHEAP?  Thought what the hey and clicked buy it now. Came yesterday and Its the early non auto tune model with two barrel adjustable carb. Looks like it has a maybe 10 hours on it.  They shipped it complete with fuel and oil, LOL.  I dumped the fuel,  pulled the plug and muffler to check out the innards and got all smiles ;D.  Added new fuel and it starts on pull #2, idles great, runs perfectly. All smiles at this point.

Now the question. I hand filed the #73 Oregon chain,  set the rakers to .025 and took it right out to the firewood pile to cut some cookies in some dry Ash rounds about 20"  It runs good,, real good, seems to be begging for more loading. Currently has a 7 pin rim and wondering about an 8?  Any thoughts about that from those with experience?  This is my first big Husky.

Congratulations Butch!
Good old pawn shops . Back in the early 1990's I walked into our local pawnshop and saw a brand new Stihl 066 Mag Arctic sitting on the shelf advertised for $350. A logger who charged it up on his camp's payroll deduction used it only for a day and when the weekend rolled around he needed some extra cash.
I saw the sign in the store "cash only" so ran off to the bank across the street.
Got a little sidetracked when I ran into a logging buddy and we went for coffee.  By the time I got back to the pawn shop the saw was sold..... :(
No my buddy didn't buy it  :D

Don't bother with a 8 t rim on the 576-24". 7 is perfect pulling that 73 chain.
My 395XP came from the factory with a 7.

And  wearing  a new 20" bar and a loop of  Carlton A1LM beside my new 461 . I have a couple grapple loads of 12-24" firewood logs out back for the processor and we took them out for some informal racing. Too close to call at this juncture
The 461 has the edge on handing, the 576 has the edge for smooth. Both make lots of big firewood rounds in a hurry, LOL.
