Striving to be average!

Do you know what size chain you are running right now, or do you plan to switch chain sizes ? Why do you want to move down to a 12" bar I have an old 024 av 40cc that pulls a 16" .325 just fine.

Sorry.  Thought I could delete it before anyone saw it.

I thought the 025 would take a 12 inch, but it looks like not.

They make a 12" bar that will fit the stihl 3005 bar mount.

Thanks.  I thought the smaller bar might be easier to wield when limbing, but maybe not???

Stihl, Oregon and Woodland all make 12" bars for the 3005 mount. They make 8" - 20" bars that will fit your saw depending on what you want to do with it.

Thanks.  Do you think 12 inch would be too short for a dedicated limb saw?  Just looking to limb downed trees.

What size bar are you running on it now and are you running semi chisel or full chisel chain ?

16 inch and semi.

For folks just joining....

I originally posted asking about a 12in bar on a Stihl 025 cuz I thought I saw that listed in the manual.  Looked online and saw that the shortest recommended was 16.

So I deleted the post.  But, Johnny on the spot - Joe - answered before I could delete it

Wondering if the 12 inch would be easier to use on limbing downed trees.

I also have a MS310.

Thanks.

I like the 16" bar on my 024 but only use it on up to 8-10" hard wood, once I hit that size I move up to a larger saw it just cuts so much faster. I don't really cut much soft wood but it cuts sassafras very well.

Oh.. I didn't know.

Just didn't want folks to waste their time on a thread I thought was not going to make sense.

Try finding some full chisel chain for it, it will cut faster...but dull faster too. If you are interested in changing you bar and chain and want to try a 12" setup Baileysonline had a 3/8 lp b/c combo for $29 + s&h. Its a semi-chisel chain on the combo.

Nice.  Thanks for your help, Joe.

I'll give it a try!
