So I'm wanting to get into sawmilling. The guy I buy my wood from called me up and said he's getting too old for it and wants to sell me his equipment. He has a 1993 WM LT40HD he's offering to me for around $10-12k. That also includes a forklift. Plus he'll come with me on the first few jobs to show me the ropes. Mill is in good condition. Everything works as it should and the motor is a 25 hp. It's a good deal, right?
Looking to start out sawmilling at peoples property till I can find some property to set it up on. Then focus on sinker cypress slabs. Which no one in my area sells them. But about a hour and a half away someone else does and he sells them very quickly. So it's sometbing I think I'd do well with. Plus whatever other trees I could get my
Hands on. I think it would be a fun side business that I would enjoy.

I think I will! When I guy pick up wood me and him usually talk for an hour or so. Just looking at wood and talking about what we are building. So he called me up and said he wants me to have his equipment.
They have guys on Facebook that sell them. Depending on the log, they go for $1-2 BFT. They dry pretty quick after milling and the 2" slabs sell for $5-6 BFT. A little more if it pecky.

I'd say "close the deal, take it"!

Won't take long to pay it off!

I'm in South Louisiana. Ville Platte to be exact. Cypress is big business here.

Welcome to the forum!  I'm wondering why you are continuing to post when you should be towing a sawmill and forklift home?

Welcome to the forum. The fact that you spent enough quality time with the old fellow that he wants you to have his mill speaks volumes of your character. You will do well with your new toy.

SawyerTed- I'm going this weekend to mill up some wood with him. Try it out and we'll sit down and come up with a solid price. Then he has a few things left he wants to mill and he wants to go through and completely service it. So it will be a couple of weeks till I buy it.

Crossroads- Thanks for that. It all started when I bought his JET tablesaw. We made a friendship and I've bought the majority of my wood from him since. He almost always doubles my order and when I ask him how much extra I owe he always says "just tip me brother". I'll do the same for others that have a serious interest in woodworking. Nothing wrong with throwing in a few extra boards for a good customer.

If that mill is in remotely good condition then it sounds like he threw in the forklift for free.
