Looks like 2 species there?  Hickory on the bottom

Looks a lot like ash to me.  A close up of the end grain would help.

Ash are the ones on the bottom of the pile.  My first reaction is soft maple, more likely a red maple.   Tree bark looks a lot different in different growing conditions and areas of the country.  
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I know the bottom is ash
The top one with the shaggy bark is the one in question

Looks like Basswood to me.

My vote is Pignut Hickory.  Looks a lot like ash when cut.  All the best, Rob.
