One of the brand specific boat forums that I occasionally use is requiring tapatalk to log in, is there any danger to using this?

Depends on what you consider dangerous. You'd be trusting them with your login data, and accepting ads from tapatalk, which may have privacy implications. I personally wouldn't use it, but I run a fairly tight ship as far as web browsers go. I'm also against proprietary software, especially for something that's easily handled with a standards based libre solution. *I* would say "Seeya!", and find a new site if they really required tapatalk.

My question, is how can they limit you to tapatalk? What if you go there on a desktop?

I use tapatalk to post pics on a hog hunting forum now that several of the picture sites were de-authorized or closed their ip down. Other than posting pics, i still use the conventional web link instead of the mobile/tapatalk version for my phone and ipad.

I have always only accessed that forum and any other on my laptop but they posted a notice that we have 30 days to join tapatalk or we wont be able to log-in. The FF is my most used, most trusted and most versatile forum and that's why I posted the question here.

You give all your info to tapatalk. That forum has sold out its members.
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Jeff, you know more about forums than anyone I know so while I can still post there I said goodbye. Now my few boating questions will be on the FF.
