Well the big day has arrived ( I think) . Snow conditions are good and it's time to move this baby from the workshop to the mill site

We will detach the electric motor and motor mount to make it a little lighter and a little less top heavy . Pry it up on some rollers and roll it out the door . Get it onto one of my sleighs . Strap it down . Then carefully and slowly tow it over the island ,down the back side and winch it into the planer shed next to its two cousins .  Reinstall the motor mount and then the motor . Going to run this one electric for now .

Hopefully it will be up and running early this spring . Still have to make infeed and outfeed hatches to pass the lumber through .

Pics of move to follow ( I hope ) later today . Stay tuned

 All done things went well

Took the electric motor of and come along out through the door with some rollers to help . It's a heavy load.

Then onto sleigh and of to the mill . We were lucky in that the sea ice is frozen and we went around the is,and rather than going over the top. Snow conditions are perfect.

Come along into the shed then back for the motor and mount . Put a strap around the rafter and used a come along to lift the motor and mount back on top.

Last pic shows her sitting in the shed next to her older sister. Ready to make some chips soon

Thanks - I didn't know what the equivalent was up there.

Like a lot of old machinery and farm equipment, it's safe enough when used safely.

Nice looking piece of machinery.  Not your first piece of old iron I see from the bottom picture.

Been into the old iron for a while now . Both these planers are made by the same company .

You can't see it in the pic but covered in the back is a small three sided planer made by Jos Poitras. It's a one of a kind . I have never to date seen any pics of one like it .

These planers are made to last and I get great pleasure restoring them and seeing them run again . They are as good today as they were when they first left the factory .
