Hey guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I recently added power feed to my older HM-126. It is powered by a Quantum wheel chair motor and a 20 amp power supply at 24 volts. It works great when the speed controller is working, but I've burned up 4 ebay junkers in the last two weeks since implementing the system.

I know there have been people who have set up power feed systems before on here. I couldn't find anything specific enough through the search function. I'm just looking for suggestions on a reliable speed controller and a fwd/reverse switch.

With a little bit of research I've found that a sabertooth controller and a drum switch may be a good set up. Let me know what you guys think!

I have some pictures of the mill working and running with the feed too if any one is interested mechanically.

Nice job..The aftermarket speed controllers a problematic because they lack a protective diode to handle the inductive kickback from the wheel chair motor. Try to find a speed controller from a handicap scooter, which has a single motor. Built in fwd/rev and proper protection. Wheel chair controllers are designed to run 2 motors and are rather picky to adapt to sawmills.

What I have found out about this forum is there are no dumb questions.  You may get some quick & dirty answers to get you going if you are in a bind.  But you will also get good solid answers from people with years of experience (some of it was painful) and so far no-one has talked down to anyone who may have less experience on a given subject.  We all have our opinions from our experience or lack there of, but there is a wealth of knowledge here.  And most is available just by asking.

Welcome aboard!
