Start by taking the protective plate off the bottom in order to get at the belts and different parts that need checking anyway .

The bottom collar does not come off leave the bearing on the shaft until after you take the shaft off bearings pulleys and all . Back off your tightening bolts on bottom and top then slide the belts down off the shives , that gives you enough slack to slide the top out past the notch in the frame now lower it down take the belts off . I wish  we weren't so far apart as I would enjoy getting that mill running and teaching you how to saw ,please feel free to pm me if you have concerns that you don't feel like sharing ,though the more guys you have helping the easier it is by the way I put in close to 30 yrs sawing with mobile dimension mills.
Thank you sir! I really appreciate all your help!

Well I got the upper edger blade collar assembly to to free up tonight and cleaned up the shaft with a scotch brite pad.

Question 1... since I'm in this far is it worth it to replace the edger shaft belts? Mine don't look too bad, light cracking from sitting but no cord frey. If I should change them does the auto parts stores have the same size belts or are these a special MD belt that I have to get from them?

Question 2... is there anything I should inspect or replace since I am torn down this far? Bearings spin free with no grinding

I didn't take a picture of the progress today but will add some progress pictures in the next couple days.
Next on the to do list...
Work on exhaust
Scotch brite pad the edger shaft pulley
Repair battery tray
Clean up the carriage, Ospho the rust and paint.
Reassemble

I would go ahead and replace those belts while you have it torn down. MD recommends getting a whole set of belts from the same batch # and the best way to do that is to get a set from them.
I don't know what you should replace in there but definitely inspect everything you can get your hands on.
Now I thought that MD was gone for good and this is the first I have heard that they are still around. Are they in full operation, parts only, or what? I had about given up on my mill but may have to rethink that now.
