I have a k17 Kohler on my mill. I was wondering if I can get an electronic ignition for it instead of the old point system. Any help out there? Harold

I don't know anything about that engine in particular but I looked into doing this for a Honda engine I owned once. There was an abundance of kits around that included a new flywheel and CDI module, and was pretty much plug and play if you can call pulling a flywheel that.

Some kits just have a trigger magnet you fix to the flywheel and can charge caps from original coil under it I'm pretty sure. Bit of googling will tell you I'm sure!

I think you mean the KT17?

Yeah, points are finicky. How old? Apparently there is a Series II on this engine, do you know which vintage is yours?

Yes, it is a kt17 series 2. Thanks. A bit pricey I think. It is an old engine. Dont want to put out too much for it. I have a 20 hp I should get started. Thanks

I had a 17 Kohler on my Norwood (came with it) command series, it didn't have points. It was very dependable ,by the way. Napa sells electronic egin. kits for old B&S engines, seems to me they did for Kohler too . :P

The Arborist Forum has a bunch of small engine people on there. Maybe ask that question over there?
My WM LT15 has an original engine Kohler with electronic.
