I'm surprised Noble didn't remember this link from a while back where  Southern head gear was discussed.

All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
   Second, it is violently opposed; and
   Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

Worn a hard hay almost all my life at work. No choice about it. Still wear one when working outside.

Thems of us with perfect heads [ bald ] need some sun burn protection in the summer and heat retention in the winter. Hard hats is good for both. Just those danged bittin insects that want to explore the inside.

Have also had the odd small limb bounce of of it.

At home in my hardhat i just use the same thing i use in the desert, :)

    It just looks like some nylon webbing with strips of cloth or something in it, the strips of cloth have something that absorbs water in them, just pull it off the webbing in the helmet, (i just use the double sided velcro "tape" to hold it in) and soak it and throw it in the freezer, just keep 2, wear one and throw the other one in the cooler 8).  It will cool you off for a few hours at home, but they do not last as long here because they dry out faster with less humidity.  you can find them at most BX/PX's and some of the military supply catalogs and websites like <http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/level4c.tam?&M5.ctx=26219&M5COPY.ctx=26219>  for like $20.

 Hard hat saves me again 8). Yesterday I was limbing out a softmaple that was full of grapevines. Got almost to the end and it got real thick, so i got a little mad and yanked on the vine. A 3" x 4' dead limb came out of the mess and landed on the hard hat. I quit for the day  >:(. Other than a sore neck i came out of it ok. Glad I have the ppe, I did look up a few times while I was limbing and never saw the limb in that mess. Ya just never know  :o.
