Merry Christmas all and enjoy your grits! lol

It is a cold Christmas Eve,  no white stuff though, I'm glad because I need to stack more brush and that don't work when it's frozen under snow

That drive home from the property, about sixty miles, was weird.  Had white knuckle trip up, but good day of work.  Then, with darkness closing in, lots of fog setting up over new snow.  It was in bands and streaks but building to what became zero visibility.  But as I went south toward home here,  got to area that has no snowcover, and no fog.

Sure is perty up there.  Mixed-woods scene, deep snow, and gleaming golden orangish-tan masses of larch trees.  Full color all winter.

We got some freezing rain in the wee hours and when I got up I heard the scanner going nuts with a roll-over accident. I missed the dispatch, but it turns out the be 1/4 mile up my road from us. Car upside down against a shed. Occupant was apparently unhurt. SO I guess the roads are slick. Now I am wondering which neighbor it was.
Gonna stay in the 30's all day with rain and the ground is pretty cold so caution is the rule of the day. It wouldn't be a good day for outdoor work anyway.
 Merry Christmas to everyone.

OK, maybe I'm the woodcutter now.

Was 12F this morning an then warmed to the 20's. The sky does look like it might bring something. I did have to open windows here at noon, it was 85F in here and it took an hour to drop 1 degree. Yeah, but I love wood heat. :D :D

The crows were circling here all day looking for a piece of Christmas, even the barn cat come over for a visit. :)

Oh, and let me mention that a snow shoe hare hopped across the yard last night. Haven't seen one, or evidence of, around the yard for quite awhile. ;D You guys know that I'm in the middle of fields here, not beside the woods. I do have an acre of 'woods' behind the house that used to be the orchard. ;)

No sign of the partridge for awhile.

Strange 24 hour period. Rainy, drizzly, snotty weather yesterday, everything still white from the little bit of snow. SO the 'romantic souls' were happy  guess. Temp stayed mostly in the mid to low 30's but started warming up overnight just a bit. This morning all but a little of the white crap is gone, temp is at 37° with no wind and mostly sunshine. Everything is wet but I i will take it and you can bet I will hit that log pile hard today.
Last night I was tired and groggy from the days activities so I filled the shop stove about 1-2 hours earlier than normal and hoped for the best. I was just too tired to do it later. This morning I had no issues doing a little coal raking and getting it back going and the shop was 55°. This just makes life easier.
The next 5 days looks like mostly overcast, mid to low 30's with one or two days hitting 40. They alas have us in the usual cycle of 'chance' of snow, or sleet, or freeing rain, or rain, or all 4 on pretty much any given day. The doldrums, I call them. In another 3 weeks it should get cold and mostly stay that way. I need shop time, so this is OK with me. ;D
For today, it's a beautiful day and I need to get some work done.

I have 32° and no sun. Snowed just about all day Christmas, another storm where it snows all day and we get an inch of snow.

Been a nice day here, some clouds, but went from 14 this morning to 24F now.

The crows and the barn cat are eating good. Although they did not get much meat scrap, they seem to like bread scraps. ;D

It's rinse and repeat here with weather pattern-another wet couple inches down here in A-Town where I live, another 6 or so up at farm.  That's for tonight into tomorrow mid day, then same deal Tues. Getting to be pretty good snowcover there, even with big meltdown last week.

What a mess at times can't see 50 feet out the front window 5 foot snow drifts in the yard wind gusting to 40 mph wont stop till some time to night >:( :new_year:

As predicted, a few inches of slop here in A-Town, a quite a bit more up Oconto County way, where my tree farm and associated holdings lie.  Probably half a foot today, then roughly same deal tomorrow.

Supposed to then calm down until maybe Sat.  It's winter.

The weather guessers got it right. We're getting a lot of snow now and the winds will pick up this afternoon. When these low pressure systems bring a bunch of snow, there's usually a high pressure system behind it. It'll be cold (-25c) for the week after the snowing and blowing quit.
So, @goose63 and @barbender whats your snow game strategy? Do you take some light passes during the snowfall? Or do you hold fire til it's all clear and then do one big cleanup?

Things changed yesterday. First snowfall of the winter ended up at about 6" at our house. About 20" upriver at the daughter's house. A day late for Christmas, but making driving difficult for sure.

@Andries I'm sitten by the wood stove when this wind stops I'm gonna go full bore after the snow drifts :snowball:

Cleared here this afternoon, but only sun we'll be seeing for days. Suppose to be flurries a couple days, Tuesday and Thursday, but nothing to measure. 21F here is about as hot as it got. Didn't need a heavy wool coat walking at least. No arctic blast until next week, but not severe. ;D Never has an old fashioned cold winter since 2008. I hot to stop adding wood to the stove this morning, too hot. Going on solar since, until after dark. Sun be setting here in 30 mins. ;D

Andries, I plow snow with an open cab skid steer and my game us to avoid it as much as possible😁 3-4", ah we all have 4wd😊 Just getting ready to go out and plow the 8" we got yesterday, it's supposed to drop another 4" today and I would just wait but the total may be too much for my wife's rig. That could cause me a bad situation😊 I don't mind plowing the driveway so much but I detest cleaning up the woodyard, I just have so many things that get buried that have to be moved and repositioned.

Was 14F this morning and started the day with a freezing fog in the trees and then commenced to snow and still coming down. I don't think it will be deep, one never knows until it's over. ;D :D

We're setting a record for the most days over 70 degrees in December.  I had to go back to wearing shorts.

HemlockKing

Been pretty typical here between 30-40 most days, might have a couple deep freezes a winter but not longer than a few days
