The poor cello is a widely undervalued instrument IMHO with a wide range of applications. As it happens I have a really good friend in Rushad Eggleston who is a top class player. Background on this video: we were in the artists camping area at a large bluegrass festival I work at. This was early morning (like 9am) and all the players here had stage gigs later in the day, but they were just getting up and playing to wake up and get in the groove for the day just playing fun stuff. The first tune is Foggy Mtn. Breakdown which Ron (the banjoist here) really likes as a standard. But the second tune, Jerry''s Breakdown [Jerry reed] is the one I posted this for as it is not something you would expect cello to break out on. Rushad does pretty doo with it here. (For bluegrass fans, Rushad was one of the founding members of Crooked Still).

I am pretty sure the fingernails have noting to do with it.  :D I miss those days badly, we had good times. I don't think they will ever come back. But I have to say, I got pretty lucky with my campsite mates. I was thinking about this after I posted and remembered that I had just done an overnight shift with the medical crew that day and came back into the campsite and walked into this. I needed sleep but then I thought, I can sleep when I'm dead, this ain't gonna happen again, I'll just sit here and drink my coffee. So I stayed just out of camera and enjoyed. I hope some others have too.
