I did not mention them but my old mentor certainly never let the cheeks and tongue go to waste either. I'd think of them like the front legs and backs on a bullfrog - don't waste those either as there is some good meat there too. ;)

Our Frog season is April 1 through September 30.

Our season is July 4 to Labor day and only from sunset to midnight with a limit of 10 frogs. Since that is DLST it does not get dark till about 9:00 pm it is not worth the effort.

Where I grew up in Fla there was no season, no limit and the only restrictions were had to be at least 3 prongs and not over 1/8" diameter on the gigs as I remember. I remember catching one on Christmas Eve one year while running catfish lines at night during a warm spell.

But by all means save the backs and front legs. If the frog was not big enough to save those parts I just let it go to grow bigger and got him next year.

Most of our frogging is hand grabbing from a boat with a 25 per night limit per person.

I have caught a few that way but I really don't like it as I have gigged too many then immediately had a big old water snake or moccasin jump on him and try to steal him from me. Its scary enough when he is 10-12 ft away on the end of a bamboo pole and I can only imagine what it would be like if he tried to take him out of my hand!

The problem is once you get him blinded by your light you can't shift the beam to search the area or the frog will jump once the light is moved.
