I have at least one, poss. two brothers like that.  We were vacationing in Colorado.  my one brother lives there about an hour and a half from Estes Park where we were.  we had inside info that the lake had just been stocked with trout.  we had planned to rent a boat for half a day and were going out at 9 am.  My brother was supposed to meet us.  No show at 930. called where are you?  We are on are way, we just have to stop in Loveland and get a license and some stuff. still an hour away so we got on the pontoon boat and went fishing.  throw out the line, real it in after 3 minutes, and have a trout.  Kids were 5 and 7 so real fun for them.  At noon still no brother.  called and he said we will be there in 15 minutes.  So we headed to the Marina dock, so they could join us with out neice and enjoy the fishing designed for impatient kid.  stood on the dock for an hour, and still no brother.  I called again, "where are you, you said 15 minutes".  "Well Meg was hungry, so we had to stop and get a snack".  OMG.  They finally show up, and of course he has to shop for stuff in the marina, then we finally get back fishing before the rental on the boat is up.  So later, we spent an hour cleaning the 26 or so trout we caught.  He then asks, "how many do you want?"...  I said, "all of them".  I was POed.  He has always been like that.

Snobdds, you're in Wyoming iirc...you keep laying down crazy talk like that and my mill may end up at your cabin while I chase the local trout😁
One of these days, someone will take my money.

Mr. Drouin:
I think you have the same attitude as I do.

I don't see how it would work other than the way current mill rental companies do it. And that is rent the mill with operator.

Gerald,

Remember what they say - you can choose your friends but not your family. ::)

When someone says something about one of my family members I always tell them I am adopted. My wife had been married to me for a couple of years before she found out I was not really adopted and my grandmother once called me aside and chastised me and told me she knew I was not adopted. :D

Kirk,

I can see where there would be commercial liability and comprehensive insurance for a mill but I do agree it is a piece of equipment I would never want to be renting out. Maybe the OP needs to be buying an Alaska mill and renting it and a chainsaw or better yet, letting the customer use his own chainsaw. :D As I said in the first post, I would never rent out my mill. I do mobile sawing so maybe that is the same as renting with an operator.

We built the embassy in Haiti and rented a concrete truck from some company in Minnesota I think and they sent their own operator we called Bob the Builder. He was the best bargain we got. We had problems with our other mixer not lifting the cement high enough and they asked him to look at it. He took one look and said "Slow down the feed rate." They did and it worked perfect. A good workman is worthy of his hire!

i agree with everyone, but it is more like let the leaves fall where they may, but they grow back next year.  that does not mean i do as much for someone after learning a lesson on an individual basis.  i only have one brother that I would never loan money, and he is about the only family member who does not owe me any.   ::)   :)   :D  .

My buddy always covered for his brother, who was a dead beat.

That's why he borrowed the dozer that my buddy rented in the first place.  Can't pick family.

They made quite an entertaining pair.  All three of us went duck hunting together one time.  We all met at the boat ramp before dawn, about an hours drive, on a cold nasty winter day, and as we were launching the boat, he asked "does anybody have any shotgun shells, I'm out."
May not be able to pick your family, but you can sure kick them out of your life.  It makes things much easier, don't ask me how I know this.. ::)

I ended up renting the mill out to my first customer, $800/week for an LT15. I think I can probably ask for $1000 a week during peak summer season. Time will tell.

He liked it so much he asked for a third week.

I wrote a lengthy rental agreement and walked through each clause with him prior to the rental. I also spent about 4 hours on the day of the drop off, training him on how to use the machine, set blade tension, and replace blades. I will let you guys know my experience and how it plays out. So far so good.

I have 8 other rentals lined up for the year.

I work on surfacing my lumber and building finished products while the mill is rented out, then go back to milling when it is not.

If you make it work out, cool! I think the problem for most of us on here, is that our mills are kind of our babies😁 Just the thought of some stranger of running their filthy mitts over the controls makes us all jealous and we can't sleep at night😬😂 Good luck in your venture👍👍
