What was your  blade lube?
Windshield washer fluid with 1/2 water and a glob of Pinsol. The last day I increased the Pinsol and started spraying the backside of the blade with PB Blaster every couple passes. It may have helped - I couldn't really tell. The last log I switched back to the 7* Timberwolf(?) blade that came with the mill instead of the 4* Kasco blades shown here. It was still cutting well when we finished up. The thing about the gunk buildup is that it's on the back side of the blade where it doesn't get the direct lube flow.

for what ever reason, the stuck on gunk is usually on the "inside" of my blades, where the lube/washer fluid is being directed.  more of a cleaner/solvent, than lubrication.  mostly where it is pressed on by the band tires.

Just sawing 1X10, etc. for B&B, plus a few 4X4's to stack/sticker on.  Total sawed today was 3091 bf.

No trouble debarking SYP logs.  Notice the bark "shell" on the right where the previously debarked log was.

My cottonwood does that if it sets a while, but more fuzzy stuff on the inside.

Piddled on an order for a repeat customer for some poplar framing.

The 16' log on the bed and the one on the loading arms completed the customers 2X4X16 order with several left over for stock. I also cut one nice 2X8 for one of the 14's on the order.

The 14' waiting by the arms with the plastic barrel shows one technique I use to drag them behind my little tractor. The plastic barrel is split open and placed over the end to help keep the log from digging into the dirt. I guess it's a redneck logging sled/bullet.

This curvy 12' log returned 6 pretty 2X6X14 off the order (4 to go) and a couple for stock that may not make full length or such but I have uses for them.

I ran out of time before I could cut the barrel tipped 14' into 2X8. I have a real pretty 13'10" log left I can finish the 2X6 part of the order but just can't quite use it for the 14' 2X4 and 2X8s remaining.

The only thing left in the woods is the big 21' butt log. If I can get it out intact it would finish my 14' order and leave me a bunch of stock 6' 2X4s for toilet projects and some 1X10's for birdhouse tops and such. I wish I had one of those big drill attachments for my chainsaw like I saw on Mountain Men to bore a hole in it for a rope through the end as that would be the ticket to get it out.

It was hot today and I kept looking at that 5 gallon lube tank I never use on poplar and many other logs I cut and I was wondering why I could not fill it will ice water or Gatorade and put a T connection on to make a field water cooler. I may have to convene an emergency meeting of the design committee. :D

some of the 16' 2X4s off first log.

 More 2X4s, a 2X8, some 2X2 and salvage 4/4 and such.

2X6X12.

I'll try to restack to match the order tomorrow. 374 bf total from the 3 logs.

Lots of uses for crotch walnut.  Small jewelry boxes, raised panels, end and side tables.  Just have to network with the buyers and show them something they can't live without.

I was running 4' long dry walnut crotch slabs through the widebelt sander yesterday.  They go on top of treadle sewing machine bases that I had sand blasted and powder coated.  One side is ripped straight to center the feather and they work as a side table.

There was nothing exciting from me today.  I sawed 2080 bf of 1X10, etc. before the loader operator had to leave at 2:30 today and he can not work Friday.  My thoughts are that we will finish the job Tuesday.

Hi all. A couple weeks ago I sawed up some white pine logs that I cut down last fall. I think it was November.

How is this for a straight log? :D However, it did make a nice straight cant.

The log that is on the mill looks a lot better as a cant than a log.

At one point I did run into a little problem...

It didn't do the blade any good and of course it was a new blade.

   Happy sawing.....Cutter

I had to take the picture from the outside of the shed.  Three whacks of framing lumber on the left and 4 whacks of 1X10, etc. on the right.  5½ days of sawing and 13513 bf sawn so far.  I have 10 more logs to saw but the forecast shows rain most of the week.  I am still hoping to finish Tuesday.

I spent most of my day chasing the butt log off the big poplar. I cut it into a 6' and a 14' hoping I could handle that. I used cables and snatch blocks and finally got them both through the gate into the pasture. Both broke free and rolled into a ditch and the big on did so twice. I finally got the 6' log over to the mill site but the 14' is just too heavy to pull back up the slope with my undersized JD 750 even with a 7' cherry log on the forks to help hold the front end down. I either have to get a bigger tractor, get some help and use roller logs or move the mill over next to the log. I will review the route again tomorrow to see if that is feasible.

I am taking my mill to my son's place 10 miles away tomorrow to saw some lumber for a shed extension project he is working on. I saw I had a 14' log still next to the arms so it either had to be moved or sawed. Though short on time (GD Band concert was tonight) I went ahead and rolled it on and sawed it into mostly 2X8's with a couple of short 2X4', 2X2's and a pair of 1X8's. Rushed in and showered and changed and barely made it almost on time. Total of 145 bf in the log and .8 engine hours to finish alone.

Took a 10.2 mile drive up to our son's place to saw this whack of logs for him so he can finish a shed extension project he is working on.

Maple and poplar. One small maple was a one cut wonder and I stopped immediately when I found it was a squirrel den and completely hollow.

27 - 16' 2X6's, the scrapped maple and a few odd cuts for salvaging short 2X4s and such.

Some 14' 4/4 boards.

Some more 4/4 boards and a few 2X4s for deer blinds from a log that split badly in the middle. About half that log was trashed due to defect.

816 bf, 3 hours on the mill. Good time with my son. Call the sticker police but this will be in the air before they get here.

Today's custom job was over in 2.3125" of sawing. Hit a nail. The band dove down and broke. Customer wrote a check for the band and my time and left. :D I hope my splitter will cut knotty beech.

I have been clearing land for my workshop/garage.  I have cut a spot out and am down to the perimeter trees that can destroy the building if they fall on it.  Here are a few I have taken out and I still have 10-15 to go.  Those two big uns in the background are coming down soon.  The downed one is 21" DBH and cut into three 17' sections, though its hard to see.

This one has been trimmed down to 21' and will become a beam for my drying shed.

We started sawing a little after 8 this morning.  We finally have the opportunity to saw something bigger than poverty sticks.  We had some heart longleaf pine stashed in the pond for the past several years.  The pond is low, and they are easier to find now so we pulled out a few decent logs and began sawing 1x10's and 1x8's for the floor of a fellow's barndominium.

Around 10 this morning I had to go in and get cleaned up for the graduation ceremony.  John built a couple of 8' pallets to stack wood on and put the metal covers back on the mill that conceal the sensor I replaced last evening.

The weather here today was stifling.  We had to pull a few more logs out of the pond, which is always an exercise of inefficiency.  The silver tip, .055's are doing well on the heart pine.  I did send two of them to a premature demise today.

This was a pic I took in the holding room.  We had just shy of 600 graduates today.
After graduation, we got back at it.  We will kiln dry this and set the pitch.

Started thinning down this pile from clearing sawmill shed space.

Got some 2x10x16' from the bigger logs.

Cut some 1x4's and about 50 2x4's so far. Gotta do all the edgings tomorrow.  8)

How about....... MY FIRST BOARD!!!!!

After some delays, I finally got my new mill assembled and started sawing. I picked a smaller Maple log to begin learning, and I'm glad I didn't choose a nicer log; The Cant looked like a Trapezoid from a Picasso painting. I have some more tuning to do. Anyway, I thought you all might enjoy this- and thanks for all of your advice and fellowship!
