Really looks good but what makes you think it won't be you sleeping in it when the rest of the gang identify the culprit and restore peace and quiet to the main bunkhouse? :D I'd add all the amenities just in case that is the case. ;)

A 40" sycamore rescue tree.  It was in the way of new construction and if my friend had not brought it to me would have ended up in the landfill.  Quarter sawed most of it 6/4.  Had to whittle it down with the chainsaw to get it on the mill.

Take An Old Cold Tater (And Wait) ~ Little Jimmy Dickens (1949) - YouTube

He wasn't there but I went to Little Jimmy Dickens hometown of Bolt WV 45 miles away today to saw the 15 white pine logs shown below. You can't see the slope but the garden on the right is slightly downhill. Where I set up 90* downhill was very steep and when the customer pushed the logs with his tractor bucket (He could not lift them) somebody had to help guide and hold them with a cant hook or it was a long steep roll to the woods several hundred yards on a 10-15% slope.

They were a few minutes late getting there but I had good help when they did show up. We sawed 1402 bf of 4/4 white pine logs cut last winter. No worms or blue stain. Very pretty boards with cants and the finished boards from 8"-12" wide and flitches trimmed out 6" or bigger (Well except for those 3-1X4's). All 10' long except one 8' log. 5.2 engine hours on the mill, 3.6 gallons of gas (Topped up full before and after so that is dead on) 4 3 bands (4* WM DH) used with one of them broken.

No after picture because the lumber was flat stacked directly on to a couple of trailers and immediately transported to the customer's son's house 10-15 miles away. The trailers were about 3'-4' from the front end of the mill on the idle side so the helpers could slide the finished boards directly from the mill to the trailer. (I love that trapezoid mill design!)

Started about 7:30 a.m. and finished about 3:00 p.m. I did stop about a mile away and left a business card with the uncle of a man who had 7-8 logs that looked to 16'-20' long in his yard. The uncle lived next door and was working in his yard when I stopped and asked. Remember II Hezekiah 4:16 "He who asketh not, getteth not." ;)

Just FYI, Little Jimmy Dickens passed away in 2015 at the age of 94. He was at the time the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry, he is laid to rest in Nashville.

Resonator,

Okay. I knew LJD had died years ago but did not remember when. My customer said LJD's nephew was one of his running buddies when he was a young man.

Well I ain't setting the world on fire, just working out an order at a time to try and keep up. Yesterday I got about 28 2x4's out of a log for a repair order.

It was a questionable log and I chucked a lot of the outer stuff. The order was was 12 boards but I will use the rest for saw horses and such. Never have enough.

Hey, fun fact: Did you know a LogRite peavey will sick just as well in a log as it will in the ground? This can be handy.

Today I am sawing hemlock 2x4's. Client needs about 50 pcs 50" long. I was hoping to find a 13' big log and maybe get them all out of one log. No joy, so I will be doing a lot more work to take them out of the smaller 10' logs. At least I will get the small logs out of the way. Still trying to knock that log pile down. It's like shoveling sand against the tide.

Tom,

I am amazed at how amazed my customers are at the number of 2X4s they can get out of their log. It is fun and funny to see them when you cut several cants out of a decent log and start slicing them and they have to off bear 3 or four at a time. I had a neighbor cut a stack of nice poplar logs a couple of years ago and handed me his cut list of 2X4 and 2X6s he wanted. We cut exactly 4 times the number out of his whack of logs as what he had on his cut list. He and I were both happy.

So now I guess I should expect contestants of the various reality shows to select a LogRite peavy hook as one of their personal items for survival. I will be expecting to see naked savages spearing bears and musk ox. On the disclaimers at the bottom of the screen with a contestant fighting off or killing a lion in Africa will be the following message "LogRite does not endorse the use of this product in this fashion!" :D

I was bucking and snaking out some poplar logs from the last tree I cut when my cell phone rang and a repeat customer called wanting 8-4X4X8's. I was already bucking the logs into 8' lengths so I just snaked the top 3 out and sawed them for him this afternoon.

The bottom 3 scattered logs are the ones I pulled and sawed.

133 bf, one engine hour on the mill. Got his 8-4X4's and the equivalent of 9 more 2X4's salvaged as side lumber.  I will offer him a discount if he can use and wants the side lumber so I don't have to stack it. 2-3 of the 2X4s are low grade but the rest is good and I can use all of it on my projects so it is a win-win anyway I look at it.

It was the devil today up here in the high country mill'in in the 93 degree heat (we don't see that high temps much) 666--- 666 BF of Ponderosa Bug Bit timber. Big knots in the blue Ponderosa sells fairly well up this way. Got lots more to haul into the mill before hay'in starts.

Lookin' good Dave, but I don't envy the heat.  We'll have the 95's here this week.  smiley_sun  I am waiting to hear from my customer to see if/where I will be sawing this next week.  I dry docked and haven't sawed since the 24th of last month.

I have been leaving my house at 5:30 in the morning getting to the job site at 6:30 and sawing until 12:00. This was last week and will be the same this week. I have no need or desire to saw any longer than that in this heat. I don't have the desire to saw in it that long but do have the need.  :) :)

Saturday cut some boxelder logs a friend gave me last fall. Not sure what I'll do with the wood. More so just wanted to cut it because I have not cut any before. Lots of red stripes like I expected from seeing it here on the forum. Today cut up a red oak into 8/4 trailer decking.

Change is hard....
Especially when a jar full of it falls off the top shelf and hits your head!

Local wind direction is determined by how I park my mill.

I've sawn all my big Walnut so working on the smaller stuff. This is some 35 inch wide crotches.

Looks great!! How is the performance of your mill cutting the wider crotch stuff?

DbltreeBelgians

Not sure where to begin. I gots red oak, walnut, a couple maple, white oak and shag hickory and bitternut (I believe) hickory. Also a couple burr oak logs for lowboy trailer decking that a buddy split for me so to fit the mill and quite a pile of firewood. I got AnchorSeal on the red oak but have yet to get any of the others done. Hopefully I can trim the checked ends of the others and AnchorSeal them before they check any worse. I don't have a sprayer like @YellowHammer has so I used a cheap Harbor Freight HVLP spray gun. Worked pretty good for a spur of the moment task. Glad I'm retired.

Brent

Where to begin?

Brent

Magicman

I am sawing again after 3 weeks of "dry dock".

First up this morning was probably my least favorite species to saw.

Yup a stinking ERC log.  OK, ERC produces beautiful lumber and saws easily even though it dulls blades because of the silica.  Unless it is fresh felled it also produces a tornado of fine sawdust which contributes to my dislike.  Many times I think that I am about through with a job and the customer drags a few ERC logs from behind the barn that have lain for a few years.  I just keep my mouth shut and saw them, often at no charge.

Anyway, I now move on to sawing SYP.  ;D
