We go to a local discount grocery that sells out of date or nearly out of date products at a heavy discount so it will be a full size bar but maybe a little stale. On a more serious note much of their out of date products are just fine.

There have normally been a lot of Tesla's on the road here, especially from all the Zoom workers who rent lake houses, but in the past few weeks the number has gone Way up.

Yesterday, I met a guy on our road driving a new Tesla.  He must have been in his 90's.  I don't think he is from here, as I had never seen him before, and he didn't raise his hand to wave like everyone who is from here, or has even been here for a while does.

I don't understand what people are talking about with the economy being bad.  Things are Booming here, but the lake area has always been immune to economy changes.  People in the building business are still having to turn down work, and from what I hear, rental houses are fully booked for the Summer.

this is the highest price for gas i have seen. on the dock for your boat $6.61. it is hi test with no ethanol. only about half the boats on there moorings this year. usually most are in the water by now. at the store $5.05. i bought a new chartplotter for my boat and i can bring up the engine imfo on it. at 1200 rpm it burns .5 gph at 5500 rpm its 21gph at 50 mph
Both my Ford F-150 & Lincoln SUV calculate the MPG to a tenth with a button click. Other than knowing they are running OK it's a worthless number.
BMW's (I was a BMW mechanic) have had vacuum gauges that show continuous MPG on the dash for years and again a worthless gizmo. On a boat or aircraft it might save yer life I guess? :D
I'll throw this out again-I did a google inflation adjustment for gas in 1973 when I moved to KY at 24.9 cents per gal and now that 25 cents equals $1.60 in todays USD.
W/O the politics: we are getting screwed. :-X

I read about products that have covid volume adjustments. Cheerios and on & on are now smaller. Even TP has changed.

Lots of folks will never rent a lake house or have much. Those people among them who work are hurting seriously. In rural America commuters are pressed to even get to work lately. The "toney set" is hardly a logical measuring stick for a healthy economy, but I do get your point.
Look at my own children who all three work at 6 figure jobs and do still take vacations, live great-their 401K's may never be what they would have been. This is serious stuff.

Tesla is warning of a number of layoffs. Musk had announced earlier a 10% labour reduction of salaried employees and also stated the economy is not as rosy as the government wants you to believe. The manager in Singapore was fired recently due to layoffs coming. He also put a pause on hiring in China.

I can tell ya there are no EV's on sale around here, zip. Ones you see are used or someone moved here from west of here with one. I see some car lots pretty bare. And I've never seen one in person around here. I've seen hybrids in showcase, and that was years ago in Toyota. Today, I see none of those in the local dealers.

We took a thousand mile round trip last week to a antique, classic semi truck show in SpringField ILL. Gas was around 4.69 and diesel was 5.39 pretty much the whole way. Lots of people on the road. Fuel stops all were full of people buying everything. Lots of people and trucks at the show. The 250 dollar a night motel was full. It was a good trip. I do think the high fuel cost will keep us home more this year. Locally there are a couple good sized lakes in my area and I am seeing plenty of boats and campers going by my farm all the time. No body staying home yet.

On the onboard mpg calculations, cars and trucks use whatever calculated  method they use.

A boat with properly installed flow meters measures actual fuel flow through the fuel lines.  It isn't a calculated number based on previous fuel consumption like many cars and trucks.

Premium non-ethanol gas at the dock here is $5.999

Didn't even make it out of Ohio, half tank, 125 bucks. RV trippin'.

Nowadays, SawyerTed, on the dock, that doesn't sound too bad. I paid 5.76 for Shell premium, in the ghetto (legit), a couple days ago.

i am not using a flowscan. i did have one on a boat i had . all the data is coming from the ecm or emm and it connected to the plotter with a nema2000 back bone cable. the cable fittings and engine harness are about $200. most outboards since 06 are able to connect

I didn't mean to sidetrack anyone here, or worse sideline their vehicle. Don't burn over E10 in any regular engine, high alcohol takes a special build. I'm pretty sure it'll lean out and damage a regular engine. I just happened into a flex fuel truck.

Fuel is up worldwide, our prices are lower than most.

Al_Smith

FWIW it takes 40 more percent ethanol by volume to equate the same power as pure gasoline .Bulk ethanol is $2.14 a gallon ,do the math .
When they got on the kick the farmers rejoiced but so did Monsanto and John -Deere .If they would have been serious they would have planted sugar beets and cane rather than corn .Now we have five dollar gas and $4.50 a pound hamburger .The farmers are still belly aching automobile drivers are blaming the politicians and everybody is pointing fingers but it still goes up in price .
Speaking of which I need mower gas which I buy 20 gallons at a time so that's a hundred bucks just to mow the lawn .

Spike60

Al; how long does that 20 gallons for mowing last?

I buy 5 gallons at a time. I get off easy on fuel for mowing; lawn is small enough to use a push mower. Still, I'm curious enough to do an informal study and see how much OPE gas I use in a year. Mower, trimmer, saws, splitter and snow blower. Also have a Suzuki 4x4. Don't expect it to add up to very much. Doubt it will be anywhere near a single fill up on the pick up.

I also go through a bunch of gas for non-road stuff but we pay the road taxes on it, at least for diesel some of the stations have off-road diesel a bit cheaper.

I use a lot of off-road gas in a year on the farm and our tax guy files the paper work at tax time and we get the road tax we pay at the stations back at tax time.

Jim_Rogers

My local station just went down 6 cents two days in a row.

I drove two hours west today and saw a 50cents per gallon spread. Near me it's cheaper than anywhere I've been lately-$4.55 was the lowest.
The evening news telling me/us the price of gas is wearing thin? Real people all know the price mostly, yet I still see folks paying much more across the road for gasoline while it's price is a worldwide news item. I guess some people are immune to reality.

West central Ohio today gas was $5.02 and diesel is $6.19

We bought RV gas, in NY (no taxes!) for 4.77.

In Vermont, filled up from about a quarter tank, for 5.09, I think. It was 193 bucks. It was the first gas station I've been to in years that didn't make you pre-pay. I went in, even though there were instructions not to pre-pay on the pump, and handed the lady my credit card and said "I'm about to fill up the RV" she said "go ahead, I trust you". That was nice.

@aigheadish , You may have mentioned in another thread what model RV it is but what model is it and what kind of gas mileage are you getting?

It's a winnebago something 30'er. I haven't calculated the mileage but the guy at the rental place said to expect 8-10.
